Unlike most people I'm happy to pay $10 or more for a game. Not for this game though. Gameplay is a joke and an insult to the Mario title.
I don't know about you but I've played pretty much all Mario games from the original NES Super Mario Bros to the latest ones on Wii U and 3DS, and while I agree that the gameplay isn't the same on Mario Run as it is on traditional Mario games, you have to play Mario run with a different mind set, as the game was tailored for touchscreen and 1-handed control. Nintendo had to overcome the problem of having a virtual controller on screen, which are just a joke imo, and I think they successfully did it. Mario Run still has the Mario mechanics with the platforming/jumping in place, and trying to get the black coins can get very challenging later on. People just expected Nintendo to develop a "normal" Mario game with on-screen controls, but I'm sure they would've found something to complain about that too...

I'd love to play so many console games that are out but my left hand was mangled and had to be rebuilt a few years ago and I've got repetitive stress problems in my right hand. I don't have the necessary speed on the controller like I used to. :(
Sorry to hear about your hands. :(
Maybe look at the new Nintendo Switch? It has games that use movement of the arms or use 1 hand to play short games which you may be able to play with your family.

Nintendo are behind the curve here. Some studios are producing great games on iOS that have some really interesting social aspects that span generational boundaries. Case in point is Clash Royale, my 9 yr old son plays this along with most of his school mates and they have split into clans with defections, promotions and demotions happening every day. There are also 5 dads in the clan who are all co-leaders so we can moderate the chat and ensure that everyone plays nice. Along with Pokemon Go this is one of the most fascinating dynamics I have ever seen in a video game.

Nintendo really need to give the social aspect a great deal of thought going forward with games like Animal Crossing.

Thanks. I had a great surgeon and I had a high pain threshold so I was able to exercise the hand immediately with no problems. So my hand looks and works almost normally except for a really cool lizard shaped scar. Mostly my problem is some stiffness and aches because arthritis and very slighty limited range of movement was unavoidable with the injury, despite exercises I continue to do. I can still play piano...about as badly as I've always done. ;)

Anyway I can't complain. It could have been way worse because I got blood poisoning almost immediately and a specialist also had to be called in to deal with that. They all kept fretting at all the ways I could end up dead or disabled. Fortunately I felt fine, looked fine, and never suffered thanks to the specialist's hard work and recovered super fast with everyone's support. Someday I hope to pay it all forward by volunteering at the hospital when we are empty nesters.

Anyway thanks for suggesting the Nintendo Switch. My husband expressed interest in it. I haven't read up on it yet. It sounds like something I would enjoy, based on what you just told me.
