The Switch is an embarrassment with it's online "service". Just die already Nintendo. (Your hardware division at least)
The online service is certainly disappointing but I've no doubts they'll rethink it if reception is poor.
As for the hardware itself, I'm please they're innovating rather than the usual box-plugged-into-the-TV we've had in the past.

And again some fresh thinking from Nintendo. They have some of the smartest brains in the industry.

Good idea. About time! But switch needs to understand different users and therefore diffferent parental controls.

I need that for me with PC gaming.
Just install Wife 1.0, it can and will do as you ask.

(Just don't get the GamerWife 1.3 expansion pack - Its malware and will make your problem even worse!!)

for now ;) ;)

Not so much with the Wii U, that failed.
Nintendo earned money on every Wii U sold, so not really.

Yeah, I thought he was a bad father after the "storyline" in Super Mario Sunshine.
You have to ask yourself if Mario is actually portraying himself through fake news...!

Ha! Amazing video. Great way to show off the parental controls. I will be using this for sure on my Switch for my 6 year old.

What a cute video. And this seems like a good feature, well thought out. Hopefully when the software goes into sleep mode or whatever, the progress isn't lost!

Based on how it's described as a "last resort", they may not have figured out how to program an auto save, especially with third party games.

Probably best to encourage your kids to respect the time limit reminder and check on them to make sure they save before turning it off and going to bed.

I really think this is a good concept for the evolution of gaming in a social context.

My biggest curiosity is whether or not Nintendo will offer us the ability to download games we already have for the Wii U (Pikmin, Splatoon, MK8, etc). While keeping the Wii U is certainly an option, not having a few games to play at the time of unboxing (unless spending an additional large sum) isn't a very appealing thought. Unless I've missed a specific statement regarding this, they need to be clear about it asap! If they will offer Wii U titles for download, we'll pre-order. If not, we'll be taking a much more timely, cautious approach.

The parental control app is really compelling...

Totally. But losing progress on a game after ignoring the timer a time or two will teach them to respect the time limits of their own volition. Obviously, never having to use the over riding shutdown is the most desirable outcome, but it's an organic consequence that will modify behavior in the future. I like it!

Discussions are really pointless when you pull arguments out from your behind.
My behind? That's rude, and you seem offended. Everyone says the same thing. Here I found a comment for you on Gamespot, from user "returnofsoma42":

"I am a die hard Nintendo fan always will be and I will defend Nintendo most of the time but the Wii U has been a trainwreck for Nintendo. They didn't market it enough and explain exactly what it is and as a result people thought it was an add-on to the Wii. Not to mention third parties abandoned it and it didn't sell well as a result of all these reasons I just mentioned. Hopefully with the Switch that will change."

I don't buy the "people thought it was an add-on to the Wii", but everything else is on point. For the record, I have a Wii U. I WANTED Nintendo to be great, but their greed these past few years has become far too strong, that's why I think they need a proper humbling. They have left many of their great games like Metroid and Metroid Prime to rot, and charge you each time you buy a classic game on a modern console, instead of just letting you transfer them (like Apple). There's also the very poor and unnecessary account-tied-to-hardware practice they have.

Also, not sure if you know, but their online gameplay service for the Switch now costs money, and their incentive is to give you a SNES or NES game every month but ONLY for that month, a rental pretty much, when Sony and Microsoft GIVE you games. (Sony for as long as you are subscribed, Microsoft forever) Another lame, shady, and greedy practice from Nintendo.

Look up Jim Sterling's recent videos on the Switch, or TheCynicalBrit's. I am not alone. And I think you are one of those Nintendo fans who will always defend them. Not uncommon. But you really should look at both sides.
