The implication wasn't that speed running prevent's enjoyment.
That sounded like the common misconception t hat the game is pretty much over after beating the boss, which really isn't the point in the game. My bad if that wasn't true :)

As for the article itself, including "old" software is pretty common place, especially as the point is building the console and bundling it with the software, and if you wait for everything to be updated and compatible between each other then tested and validated by everyone, you're never going to release a product. Even with vulnerabilities (hello ATMs under Win XP.)
Besides, said exploit implies at least being connected to an already hacked wifi so the traffic to Nintendo is already being intercepted, since there's no real browser allowing you to go wherever you want. If that happens, there's already a good chance you're going to have a bunch of other problems.

I'll be more concerned if it's not patched when they release an actual browser or open up something like an app store for it, outside of big developers.

Not to mention the tedious weapon breaking mechanic, and the horrible gyro puzzles. I have no idea how thing thing is getting 10/10. It's good, but that's just silly. I doubt I'll proceed much further in the game.

If they really wanted weapons to break constantly then they needed a more sleek inventory management system.

The rain is an issue too. Having to wait around for rain to stop b/c you need to climb something is nuts. There are just too many negative quality of life issues for my taste.

It's a survival game in part. Would you honestly want a character who is able to magically carry 500 breakable items or has magically indestructible wooden sticks that burn forever and never break? As for the rain, that's only in rainy areas, and it makes sense. It seems like you don't want to game to have any semblance of realistic physics at all.

So is this something that Nintendo can fix with a firmware update? If NOT, then the Switch is massively flawed on arrival. FOA.

Yes. There was an update on day 1 that unlocked the microSD card capability as well as updated several other things.

I'm not playing a Nintendo game for realism. Are you going to argue that Mario games should be more realistic?

I don't need 500 weapons. The default quantity is fine, but I don't want that awesomely cool weapon I finally got to break after 8 hits. Worst case, let them last a few hours and then let me pay a blacksmith for repairs. As it is, I'm just running around avoiding confrontations so my weapons don't break. Either that or I just fight with ****** weapons so I can save the good ones for more difficult content. I ran around in old Zelda games breaking pots with swords for rupees without worry that the weapons would break every 20 seconds.

Regarding rain, no I don't want to repeat a 10 minute climb because I was almost to the top and it made me slide to the bottom. That's the opposite of fun.

I've played decades worth of Zelda games without annoying "realism" that made a horrible inventory management system rear its head. It's just quality of life stuff where they whiffed.

I'm a gaming completionist. I almost always go back after beating a game to pick up side quests that I ignored on my first run. Not a Nintendo fan but BoTH sounds like a mix of Tomb Raider and Darksiders, which sounds fun.

As for the Switch, Nintendo needs to get the browser updated. Just because no one has done anything nefarious yet, doesn't mean they won't eventually. There are a-h0les out there who just want to see the world burn. No sense giving them the matches.

I loooooove the game but you hit on the most annoying **** I agree

It's because Nintendo Fanboys always lose their **** whenever their games get below a 10/10 or 9/10.
Of all of the fanboyism (XBox vs PlayStation; PC vs Console; Graphics etc.), Nintendo fanboys are literally the worst. They literally know little to nothing about other games yet blindly call everything mindless shooters or copies.
They're even worst than Apple Fanboys ironically.

Those things are exactly what I like about this game. To each his own I guess.

Rainstorms haven't lasted so long that I can't wait them out or find something else to do until they pass. I like that weapons break so you can't just find one uber weapon and never utilize any of the others. The systems in place make you think about the best way to approach each situation. Inventory management is now part of the game, but it's understandable that doesn't appeal to you.

Also, I'm not sure how far you have made it in the game but the "awesomely cool" weapons typically do have an option for repair if you have the right materials and some rupees.

I've yet to meet ONE Nintendo fan who exhibits the fanboyism you suggested.

The only fanboys I see on a constant basis are Playstation fans. When I go into a gamestop, the PS4 fanboys are talking graphics, frames per second, and laughing at Nintendo for 'OMG - only 30fps at 720p - ridiculous!' and telling others that the other systems 'suck'.

While whenever I talk to Xbox or Nintendo fans, they usually talk about game play and how fun the games they want are to play. They don't deride the other's systems - they just say that they like their system better and give their own reasons. (EDIT: There are a few Xbox fans that I've seen exhibit some of these fanboy tendencies, but it's very uncommon)

I don't have a dog in this fight - it's just my opinion from what I've seen.

I totally agree about the weapons. I wouldn't mind them wearing down eventually if they lasted longer than a minute or so in a fight. I don't want to get all the way to a boss and have only a tree branch left. Maybe they get better as the game goes on. At least they give unlimited bombs (once they spawn), so there's that.

Early on I had to wait 15 minutes for the rain to stop so I could climb up a cliff. Once I got to the top I was instantly fried by a laser. Very annoying, especially because I forgot to save the game once the rain stopped. I learned my lesson but the waiting is still annoying.

Yeah that's the qualify of life stuff I think they missed on. Still a good game but it sapped my desire to play for sure. As another poster mentioned, some weapons can be repaired later but it's cost prohibitive imo. It's easier to simply avoid battles, which sucks.

Just baffles me to see the perfect scores.

After working for Gamestop for a decade, I've had the misfortune of meeting a lot of Nintendo fans that exhibit that level of fanboyism. Sadly, one of my personal friends is one.

If you've "yet to meet ONE", either you're the one, or you're being disingenuous, because just like Xbox/PS/PC gamers, there are many Nintendo fans who're blindly loyal. You get that with any group.

This is a bit of an extreme statement. Nintendo games, their major or big games, are warranted in their favourable reviews. Not all of their games get perfect reviews, and not every Nintendo fan loses their mind if the reviews are "not perfect"

Nintendo has made some genuinely genre defining games. Breath of the Wild is deserving of it's "perfect" reviews, just as Star Fox Zero was deserving of it's mixed reception. Sure you specifically note "fanboys" but that is a bit of a broad term and you use it in a derogatory sense...there are some very friendly self-proclaimed Nintendo "fanboys" out there.

Again...not a fair statement to make. That poster may never have met that level of fanboy you're referring to. I can't recall meeting anyone who was that "blindly" loyal to Nintendo their entirety, in the way that was being described. And I used to work in the industry. I've met a lot of people at E3.

Perhaps one of my cousins who at one time kind of was, as he was a Nintendo only gamer for most of his life...but even then, he wasn't unbearable or anything. He didn't change when he was a "Nintendo only fanboy" to suddenly not being one, he was always the same person. Its just some people can be off putting, despite whatever "flag" they represent (as you noted...and I agree with the ultimate point you were making there, but you could have made that same point, without the bolded)

Although extreme fanboyism can be very off putting, there are some nice folks out there, and it is entirely possible some people may not know anyone personally or have met anyone who is like that.

You're working at Gamestop so you interact with hundreds of customers a day who are video game centric customers on top of that, so your perspective might be different than that poster's.

Not all of us interact with that many gamers. So what is wrong, is to make such a label about someone who doesn't have the same experience with meeting that many gamers.

I don't work at a gamestop. I don't live video games. I'm a dad, and I go into gamestop-type places maybe once every week to get games for my kids, or something for myself, like the new Zelda. I get about a 10-minute interaction per week as I browse the stores. It's just my experience as someone not into the gaming culture as much.
