And people like me that stop in and do a quick scan.

I don't like buying any content that I get for free on the PC. I'll pay for episodes most likely, but not for silly things like clothing updates.

Guys, everyone is trying to reach conclusions way too fast.

JackAxe, I can't find anything exclusive from Infendo outside of their interpretations of the statements quoted in the OP. Can you provide me a source?

GDC is a developer's conference. They announce platforms and tools for developers- not consumer-related announcements.

On the one hand, this is not an announcement that Nintendo will start charging for online play.

On the other hand, this means that they are implementing a way so that they CAN choose to charge for online play at will.

Dismissing it is a mistake. What if Nintendo's third parties get greedy and start charging? What if Nintendo decides to charge for online play for the big AAA games?

On the other hand, don't jump to conclusions- for all we know it could be for MMOs.

Personally, I don't mind Nintendo WiFi Connection's lack of features- as long as it remains free. I would never pay a dime for it, and I completely agree with Ed on that topic. I'd probably call PSN the best online service- it's halfway to XBox Live's featureset, but completely free. I refuse to pay to play online, so I'd never get XBox Live and I will not buy any games released using such a system, even from Nintendo.

I listened to their radio stream. Here's the iTune's link.

They talk about it 11 minutes and 30 seconds in. His comment are from previous statements and his understanding of them, but for the purpose of backing up my post, I fully trust what he's stated. If I'm wrong, you can eat my words. :) :p

What's Nintendo doing about storage? Have you heard if we'll be able to download WiiWare titles to our SD cards? I'm going to buy LostWinds and presumably more, I'm just wondering how big they'll be.

They talk about Nintendo's perceived attitude towards independents and it sounds like Nintendo hasn't really changed, I hope they're wrong. :(

But anyway, I will NOT pay for any online gaming service. I've gone out of my way to avoid games like WoW.

Listened, but like I said, this is their interpretation of the same statements. They have little more information than us.

Still, I agree that the quote does not mean that that Nintendo will start charging on every game. I disagree in that I don't think the "Pay-and-Play" titles are just games with DLC. That doesn't make sense- you aren't required to pay to play, just to get the additional content. No, SOME games will have a monthly fee.

The real question is which games will Nintendo implement this for. Animal Crossing MMO? Acceptable. Pokemon MMO? Acceptable. Standard online play for a popular game such as Mario Kart? Completely unacceptable.

We'll see. No need to jump to conclusions until we see the implementation- GDC is just being used to announce the tool for developers.

Personally, I expect it is just to allow MMOs. I just hope Nintendo doesn't make it easily available to third parties, because I can easily see them abusing it.

Absolutely nothing :( Still no SD card usage- they were even asked by IGN about it at GDC.

I would only pay for an episodic WiiWare title monthly -- maybe, it would have to be GOOD. I would not buy into any game that required I pay a monthly fee, that's almost a pound of coffee and just recently Phoenix Wright: Justice for All($12.11 brand new from Circuit City.). :)

Well, I have my hopes up and it's not like the nineties when Nintendo could parade around with their mightier than though attitude. They need to offer schools their SDK for learning it, and open it up for the little guys like me.

And for storage, I thought it would be cool if they released a solution that replaced the current base holder, but then I thought that not everyone places their Wii vertically.
