Picked up a 9th gen back in the spring and have no regrets.
I prefer having a 3.5mm headphone jack because (a) I can still use Bluetooth for audio if/when I want and (b) I can use my Sony MDR-7506 headphones - still better sounding to me.
It‘s an ideal media consumption and surfing device at a reasonable price. Wonder how long Apple will keep this model around.

I believe it is more than apparent that the 9th gen is the one to get unless one must have the magic keyboard and 5G. Headphone jack and simple lightning port for Apple Pencil 1 pairing.

XS has a turd of a cell modem.
Gotta be better than the iPhone 7 I had. I’ve been told I can go to my cell carrier and get a “deal”, but that “deal” requires me to update my plan (+$15/mo) and add on monthly device payments for 24 or 30 months. It’s just stupid. So I paid the $330 and I’m set for at least a year.

I agree. Some selection and choices are good, but its becoming a bit much. They do a good job of hitting many price points, but the 10th gen iPad, Air, and 11" Pro feel like a lot of overlap.

Remove the Pros for this argument:

10th gen vs Air. Look near identical. But the 10th gen has a refreshing look with the new colours, and camera moved to the horizontal position. But the Air has M1 and Stage Manager! But then the 10th gen gets the new Magic Keyboard folio. But the Air has a laminated display and can use the Pencil 2!

I feel like these two products really should be one.
Remember when they were better with naming products, even though they were goofy sometimes, like the eMac.
But it was obvious that an iPod Nano was smaller than a Mini. A shuffle had limited features but was super lightweight.
Now they're so worried that it won't sound posh enough, so everything has to have the shortest but most confusing name ever.
Could've even been iPad Color or iPad Chroma
And the 10.2 could be the iPad Student or something. Anything to differentiate.

I wonder why there has been such a glut of $269 sales on this, if it is to remain in the lineup. Maybe that's its unofficial new price.

$329 --> $449. Quite a bump in price. $700 for a base model Apple tablet + keyboard. Ouch!
I agree, and for what? A new look and a marginally larger screen, while still using the 1st gen Apple Pencil that requires an adapter? Most people getting the base model probably couldn't care less about the other specs, features, or accessories.

Considering they're still selling the 9th gen, I hope people vote with their wallet and the 10th gen is a flop. There really should only be one base model iPad at the cheaper price.

This new iPad lineup seems like a mess.
"Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and culdron bubble"

Imagine having to explain with a straight face to the average consumer the difference between an iPad, and iPad, an iPad Air. Imagine that consumer ever having a positive feeling about that interaction. This is the stuff that ruins brands.
Indeed. I'm beginning to miss the simplified Apple line up after the did away with the Performa naming scheme. Don't head down that road again, Apple.😬

Hmm the 9th Gen iPad was on sale here in Denmark for the equivalent to USD 276 last week, so I picked one up for the wife and she is happy with the performance even though it's a 2021 model 😀

Here in Italy the prices are just insane! Ok the inflation, but come on, a product that has been released a year ago, with arguably outdated hardware, has received a price increase of 100€.

I picked one up yesterday on Amazon for $269. I wont really use it often but I figure that deal was good enough to dive in. I would have waited to grab today but I'm glad I didn't, $449 is way above what I wanted to spend and what my needs are.

I did see someone comment they picked up a 2018 iPad pro for $330 on ebay so i started looking, is that a better buy than the 9th gen one I picked up yesterday? Other than promotion and faceID, is it that much different?

Inflation rate in Cupertino must be higher than the rest of the planet. What’s up with these crazy yearly price increases across all products? seems like the underlying tech is mostly the same as the previous gen, so what’s the reasoning here?

and not many were paying $329 anyways since regularly on sale. Which this one might be a bit but still...

in a direction comparison thats 27% more expensive. Eureka! You're better off gettin an M1 iPad Air at that price.

The iPad lineup is now needlessly confusing too, 9th gen iPad sold alongside 10th gen because way too expensive, Air, and 2 sizes of Pro's. and iPad mini.

There are too many active iPad models. I like choices/options from companies but it is becoming ridiculous.

Customer: "I'm interested in an iPad"

Staff: "Great! Here's the iPad, iPad, iPad mini, iPad Air, iPad Pro 11 inch, iPad Pro 12.9 inch". Would you like to hear more about what each one does?"

*staff turns around and customer has left*

Keeping the 9th Gen at $329 and then a 10th Gen at $449 is not a generational leap in product offering.

It's a generational leap in normalising a baseline price at an immediate 36% increase. Sneaky.
That’s how Apple rolls these days. I hope things improve on that front once Tim’s gone.
