well I use the iPad to stitch photos and the m1 iPad is twice as fast as the 2020 pro. The current iPad Air crashes stitching. whilst not everyone needs the m1 in an iPad! I do.
the crash doesnt happen to your M1 ipad because for stitching photos you need as more RAM as you can have...so you have at least 8gb ram or maybe 16

Power user. Lol. It’s an iPad.
Well define power user.... iPad Pro is my only machine, and make a living out of it.

Graphic design, photo retouch, and much more!

That’s more than enough for 99.9% of iPad users in general, since iPad OS is still super limited and Pro models are useless marketing crap.

I disagree, but what do I know, I only make a living out of it.

What's the point of the iPad mini? Phones have ~6" screens, who would then want a tablet with a 7.9" screen?
Larger display with a different aspect ratio maybe.....

That's like saying "What's the point in the iPP 12.9" when the 11" exists"

yeah buddy.

Hopefully they start upping the RAM on the base model and the Air. With the base at 3GB and the Air at 4GB there’s very little incentive for developers to build apps that can access the larger amounts of RAM in the M1 Pros. Processing power is not a limitation of even the base iPad’s current A12 chip; RAM is.

Thinner design, gargantuan bezels. What's the point?

Bezels aside, these will sell like hotcakes. Only people on this forum (like myself) care about slim bezels. Someone like my mom won't care at all, lol.

Point 1 - fair enough
Point 2 - no one has an 11" iPad Pro and is considering buying a 12.9" iPad Pro to accompany it

Point 2 - no one has an 11" iPad Pro and is considering also buying a 12.9" iPad Pro
Regarding point 2 - you've not spent enough time in the ipad forums - plenty of users with multiple sizes.

And I will be buying a Pro Max 13 and iPad Mini 6 this year. The iphone and the iPad are not the same experiences when taking ratios and screen size into account.

If the ipad could run Transmission, Smart Converter Pro and host my library, I'd have no need for a laptop. Until then, its a toy. lol

Better reading experience, smaller for vertical market uses, better as a controller for entertainment and HomeKit, fits in my back jeans pocket, not as tiring on my eyes as my XR, easier typing on screen while not requiring a larger form factor. The mini has a great number of uses that I would not want to have to do on an iPhone. I’ve got a mini 4 and a mini 6 may be in my future soon. It’s the perfect size for a lot of tasks even if it’s not the best for everyone.

I've owned iPhones since 2009 but never bought an iPad. But I will probably buy my first later this year, anything but the Pro models.

I’d add that Apple tweak iOS and iPadOS slightly differently. You can’t use any form of split view or slide over even on the biggest iPhone, which is a big limitation when it comes to multitasking. And of course the aspect ratio makes some tasks not very useful on iPhone, like reading or annoting (you can’t use Apple Pencil on iPhone). I think that iPad mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max are two different devices with two completely different purposes.

I guess given it’s thinner that it’ll still support only Apple Pencil V1.

Would make sense to me as a lot more enticing to only have to upgrade an iPad than an iPad plus pencil, but this is Apple...

Though it will not get the latest processor, the updated processor should be more than enough for entry level iPad. The updated processor along with the low entry price point, will be very good for anyone planning to buy iPad without spending a lot.

While the wide top and bottom bezels aren’t aesthetically pleasing they’re actually quite ergonomic. Most people hold their iPads in landscape orientation and the wider bezeal area actually provides a nice handle to hang onto. Considering these iPads will likely be used by casual consumers and children that’s actually a plus for many.

A13 with 4GB of DRAM, along with using the iPad Air 3 chassis and a laminated display should be all anyone can expect from a 9th Gen iPad. An upgrade to the front camera would be nice after all this time and a 20w USB-C to Lightning adapter, and Bluetooth 5.0. However, all this adds cost, so we’ll see.

If the upcoming model is indeed 8.5" it will be a lot easier to read large web pages than a ~6" smaller iPhone. Safari also runs always in desktop mode in iPadOS. You also need to compare what you can do in IPadOS that its lacking in iOS, which is primary the differences with Apps and multitasking which for the iPadOS are made to be more useable against larger app windows.

There is also the cost towards someone who doesn't need the cellular capacities of the largest iPhone versus a WiFi connected iPad mini on the go. That is why they both exist and are marketed differently. Just like the most economical iPad which is the topic. :)
