I have an XFX Nitro RX580 that I am getting ready to install into my 2010 cMP 5,1. I have been digging through the internet to figure out if this card is flashable to get the boot screen. I’m aware the MCV will be offering the service at some point but I am trying to see if there is info and resources out there to perform this myself? This is my first cMP and I know only the basics about this machine so be nice! Haha

You don't have an 'XFX Sapphire' card. Either it's XFX or it's Sapphire…and if it is a Nitro, it's a Sapphire.
MVC's currently flashing these three models of RX 580 only...
AMD RX580 Sapphire Pulse 8GB
AMD RX580 MSI 8GB
AMD RX580 GIGABYTE AORUS 8GB
Not the Nitro. At least, not yet. And you can't flash it yourself, this is a mail-in service which involves a physical card mod.

The other question, is do you really need the boot screen?
Most people can live without it.

You are right, my bad, I have been just looking at so many posts and threads it’s making my head spin.

This is the card I have:Click here

I asked if this was possible at home because I read up on people flashing their R9 280 cards at home so I wanted to see if I could accomplish the same thing with my RX580

There are two self-flashable GPUs with public Mac EFIs/ROMs:
  • Nvidia GTX 680
  • AMD HD 7950/HD 7970/R9-280/R9-280x

All other cards have proprietary Mac EFIs/ROMs.

EDIT : IMPORTANT NOTE : You absolutely HAVE TO BUY a TWO mini 6 pin to ONE 8 pin power cable to power the GPU otherwise it will shutdown your cMP under stress.

2 x mini 6 pin to 1 x 8 pin GPU power cable 02.jpg

Get it here : https://www.amazon.co.jp/Express-Adapter-Braided-15-inches-TeamProfitcom/dp/B07P82ZH22

Don't even think of using any other type of GPU power cable for your RX 580

For future reference your XFX RX 580 has a BIO SWITCH ! = there are two BIOSs on the card.

Have a look about 1/4 way down this page
you'll see this.

This is a good thing for the present and a good thing for the hypothetical future if some Mac GPU genius comes up with a way to EFI flash this card.

I highly recommend that you read up on DUAL BIOS Mac Pro in google

XFX doesn't have a sterling reputation for use with Mac Pros as they have often strayed from the reference design path. Having said that, I flashed an XFX HD 5770 for EFI ( boot screens ) and it is still working well.

Please post your experiences with this XFX card as, if it works without issues some here might be interested in buying one - the price is certainly right.

Just bought a XFX Radeon RX 580 GTS XXX Edition 8GB GDDR5 (3x DP, DVI-D, HDMI) and that card worked OOB; no bootscreens, but hey thats no big deal. Still going to search for a possible ROM to get the bootscreens on my Mac Pro (running Mojave)
