Nividia or ATI

I prefer Nvidia because they kick the crap out of ATI every year. And ATI always lies about how fast their new cards are going to be.

ATI says their latest card is going to be the fastest every year right. Then they come out and they are not as fast as the current Nvidia card; which by the way is about to be updated within a month or so from the ATI release. So essentially ATI's cards are **** every year and not worth the price of a new card because technically they are about as good as last years card compared to nvidia.

nVidia might have the faster cards on the market now, but this is only the case running Windows.
Hardware speed is one thing, drivers and support another.

On the Mac, it seems nVidia's products have had lots of issues over the years. The last one being cr@ppy performance of the GeForce 8800 card on Apple's pro apps.
One way or another ATi's cards seemed much more "Mac-friendly". Better drivers, and better software. It seems ATi simply puts more effort in getting their hardware to work well on a Mac than nVidia does.
It looks like nVidia delivers the hardware, and then sort out the drivers with Apple later.

ATI has also been good about selling genuine Mac aftermarket cards (Radeon 9200 PCI and X1900 G5 come to my mind first) and supplying working drivers for them.

Can anyone remember Nvidia ever selling an aftermarket card specifically designed for the mac?

The ATI, even being a much lesser card, is still faster than the 8800 hands-down in all the Apple Pro apps, even after the 10.5.3 update.

The entry-level ATI is a better buy for a professional. The nVidia is a great upgrade if you're a gamer.

Nope. I've always prefered ATI, anyway. Not a FPS gamer so I don't need the fastest game card. Wish Apple would offer the FireGL cards for the Mac Pro.

firegl cards would be awesome - but if was nVidia i'd be saying to apple we'll give you the 8800 (which everyone knows is the best gamer card) as long as you only provide our Quadro card and not the FireGL card.

TBO they have sold a couple:
GeForce 4 Ti
GeForce 6800 Ultra (as this was the first card capable or driving the just released ACD 30")

But not nearly as much as ATi have done.
