Hello All,

I use my macbook pro in a lab that I work in at a university. When I plug in the ethernet cable (connecting my comp to the network), I notice that my cpu usage jumps from near 0% to 50 - 75%. I found that the nmbd program is using nearly 100% of one of the two cores in my CPU!!! I have read that this is part of the samba package designed for windows file sharing. I have turned OFF all sharing on my mac, yet the nmbd problem persists. I am at a loss for what to do now. Please help!

Is it possible you have some kind of distributed computing client from the university installed on your Mac and when you get on the network it cranks up?
