If your drobo fails you can buy a new one and move the disk pack across. This should result in no loss of data according to drobo.

True, but some of the feedback talk about melt-down that damaged all the hard disks. They seemed like rare events and I bought a Drobo anyway. However, unless those people were lying that risk exists.

Never heard of that, but a single point of backup is always a bad idea. Ideally a second offsite copy should be made. Your house could burn down etc.
