Someone's started the notMac Challenge to encourage developers to come up with an easy .mac alternative. I've looked into this myself and found some very useful information here, but there's no way I could follow all the steps. He's asking for others to contribute to the prize (kinda like the XP on Mac contest), but his uncle's also going to match the first $10,000.

a lot of people put down .mac, i oersonally do not use it, but it can be incredibly useful for some users, espesially those new to computers/macs as everything is integrated, usually 1 click away, plus, you get access to loads of video tutorials for ilife etc. that is where .mac is more aimed, convienience is what you pay for, it is possible to get almost all the .mac features sepreately and free but a new user wouldnt be able to do it.
