I installed iOS4 and everything went smoothly, except I lost my 3G data! 3G voice works fine, but even EDGE data is down. WiFi works fine.

I did a hard reboot and still nothing. Rebooting now without the SIM card in, about to pop it back in again.

Anyone else have this problem?

EDIT: SOLVED! Do a restore.

By hard reboot do you mean you did a restore? I would think you would need to reinstall 4.0 again.

No, I meant a hard reboot - POWER+HOME until reboot.

Hard reboot without 3G card made no difference.

I show full signal and have the 3G logo, but no data. bummers!

where are you?

i had to redo my data settings as i'm on o2 payg and the default for a clean install is the contract data settings, had to go in and change that. might be worth a look....

I had this problem too last week after upgrading my 3GS to iOS4. I fixed it by restoring my iPhone and then restoring my backup.

The problem seems to be happening when people upgrade to iOS4.

I see you've solved it by doing a restore, but I noticed that in Settings >General > Network there is now an option to turn Cellular data on and off. Maybe this was turned off for you by mistake?

I saw that option. It was turned on, but before restoring I tried flipping it off and on again, to no avail.
Airplane mode, reset network settings, 3G Off/On, Cell Data Off/On all had no effect.

was yours jailbroken before?
Mine was, I'm just doing the restore now to see if that sorts it out.
Did you restore from backup or just fresh and clean?

It was.
I restored from a backup that I had made a few minutes prior to upgrading.

simple fix in most case. back up contacts and other things..i did lose my text messages..

but when you restore..set up as a new iphone instead of restoring from back up..some how that has an adverse effect on it..

Just off with AT&T

Apparently, if you upgrade right from the Jailbroken 3.1.3 to iOS 4.0, you will end up with the symptoms described in this thread.

Make sure you revert back to pre-jailbroken status before upgrading to iOS 4, or do the restore to factory defaults, and then restore from backups to get 3G working again.

I just got off the phone with AT&T and they told me that if it was jailbroken, you would not have 3G data.
