Do you seriously think there won't be a MMS app on the App Store when it launches?

I'm sure there will be, but it would be so much nicer to just have it and sms all in one nice application... no jumping around

Plus all but the last can come in a software update/3rd party apps

I'm REALLY hoping that MMS comes as an option.

I think if Apple give it a few months they could release their own MMS app and sell it for a fiver on the app store. Imagine how much they'd make from that one app alone!?

i'd pay a hefty amount for an app that would let me send/receive mms from my iphone.

would that even be possible tho?

Whilst MMS might be regarded as old technology, it's simple for your average mobile phone user to understand as it works just like a text message.

The main reason I can be heard to whine about it's dearth on the 3g iPhone is that many friends and family send me loads of the things and retrieving them through the o2 UK web browser is a royal pain in the proverbial...

I would have thought for a technology to be classed as "dead", there would have to be something to replace it.

What's the alternative to MMS?

It's called "email."

You can get it on your phone, *and* on your computer. A picture delivered via email is much higher-resolution than a MMS pic. And if you get a picture via email, you can easily add it to your photo library for safe keeping...

MMS is pointless... i have swirlymms installed on my hacktivated iphone, and probably use it once in a blue moon, when my sister sends me odd photos..

none of my mates use it.. it is pointless.. and expensive.. email is free and included in your data package that the iphone comes with...

more and more phones will have email, they do already, but no one sets it up, because it isn't as easy as setting it up on the iphone!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A102 Safari/419.3)

Even if an MMS app is made, who says they'll allow it? AT&T blocks usage of SwirlyMMS, so unless Apple's the one to put out the app, there's a good chance it'll be denied.

I have a feeling it will never be added because Apple feels it is old dead technology. Remember when people complained because Macs had no floppy drive?

but at that point in time floppies where not widely used any more. While most computers had them very few people used them.

Compared to MSS which is fairly widely used. Apple is just being stupid and stubborn but this is not the first time either they pulled a stunt like this.

While we are mentioning MMS here, what about COPY / PASTE so I can copy the stupid username / password I get when I receive an MMS from viewmymessage.com or what ever that is when someone sends me an MMS message. I can't believe there is still no Copy / Paste and To-Do lists native to the phone.

MMS IS NOT DEAD!!! in fact, e-mail is dead, Apple are releasing US centric standards on the rest of the world, sorry, it won't work!

Nobody e-mails anymore everyone IM's and email on the move is still clunky even on the iPhone. MMS is a good way to send Video's captured and MMS, and when you are near your friends, bluetooth them across, oh wait the iPhone can't do that either!

Come on N96!

Erm okay maybe my work e-mail but my personal e-mail is pretty much job searches, spam and ermm.......

I'm from Planet Europe where mobile technology is more advanced and we don't use e-mail anymore :)

This issue comes up time and time again, but no one ever really realizes that Apple is doing your wallet a favor:

You can send MMS to anyone using email by sending the email to their phone# @ the carrier. This varies from carrier to carrier, but its incredibly easy to look up, that way you can send "MMS" for free to these people, and *gasp* when then reply it comes back as an email, also free(!!!) for you.

MMS are free anyway, carrier to carrier, you get x number of MMS free in your monthly allowance. Not everyone has free data usage and i know hardly anyone (except Blackberry users) who use e-mail on their mobiles. Most people have like Hotmail accounts with no POP or IMAP services that are free.

Sorry, that doesn't cut it... Here in Europe, everyone uses MMS and people expect you to be able to receive them. I've had more than a few people laugh at my iPhone because it doesn't do something most people consider a standard feature.

It's really annoying having to go to a website to pick up the MMS message when it surely isn't that difficult to build in software to see it directly. The other HUGE problem with e-mail is SPAM..! I can't use e-mail as a substitute for MMS because of the volume of spam I receive and the fact that there's no way of filtering it on the iPhone.

Why is this even an argument? There's obviously a large number of people who use MMS and want it on the iPhone. Simple solution: make it available to those who would use it. Charge a small fee. Whatever. I, for one, WOULD use it frequently as I still receive all kinds of messages telling me to go to viewmymessage. Even though I've told everybody that sends these to me that my phone doesn't work with MMS, it's just habit for them. They don't see any reason a newer phone shouldn't be able to receive messages sent by a three year old camera phone and neither do I.

I think it would be downright ridiculous if there wasn't something to change this included in the App store. Like I said, I don't mind if there's a small charge to cover the data transfer costs (even though it should be included in the data package). If anything, AT&T would be MAKING money because instead of using email, which is FREE, users would be using the messages that actually have limits placed on them for some.

This might be useful for you, if you are willing to donate first..

I would be in a similar situation to you, TBH, thats why I got a iPod touch instead of a iphone. I will get a iPhone 3G because now there is the App Store in which there will probably be a MMS app.

I Want Mms

I can not believe that we still do not have MMS as a standard on the iPhone.

I love my iPhone. I hate that it does not do MMS.

This is a feature that I cant live without.

....

I feel better now getting that off my chest.

I really wish they had out that in....maybe it will make the cut(seems unlikely)

I could go for

MMS
Video Recording
Zoom while taking picture
3.2 megapixels

But for 199/299, I'm pretty freaking happy!

Plus all but the last can come in a software update/3rd party apps

but of course we have been saying for a year now that we will get those software updates.. and have we?

With the current lack of MMS support coupled with the fact that it seems that once again MMS will be lacking in 2.0, this feature alone has driven me to put installer on my phone to use Swirly...
