It was there on my 2018 iPad Pro and my iPhone 11 Pro, now its disappeared. Not one video, and its channels I know are in 4K, are showing the resolution as available (not even 1440). Is YT up to its “Only for paid subscribers” shenanigans, like with pip?

That's because iphones have 1080p screen resolution, not even true 1440p...
What about lag, stuttering here and there in youtube app? 😂

Youtube is becoming a joke. Especially after they blocked pip from even working properly in browser instead of the app. They're literally restricting built-in iPhone features to make you pay them to unlock it.
Imagine Netflix being like "From now on you can only use pip on the iPhone/iPad if you have the highest subscription tier".

Also not sure why they activated and then disabled 1440p support in their app, probably going to try to get you to pay them for that also.

I see 2160P@60FPS HDR in some videos but not others. It seems they have limited this to only videos that have HDR. Any “regular” 4K video seems to default to 1080P. It seems on iPhone they are ensuring that only videos that have all features show in the highest resolution, seems they are doing quality control?

OP uses a iPhone 11 Pro and iPad Pro, both of these use resolutions higher than 1080P, so what are you on about? Or are you just trolling?

I looked this video up after seeing your post.
#1. it looks awesome in HDR and the higher resolution
#2. I'm glad 4K isn't gone but the HDR requirement is a bit excessive
#3. Costa Rica has too many snakes!

I agree, pretty lame. She has a google play subscription we use.. but we are cancelling this October when they discontinue it. YouTube isn't what it used to be, and I really don't mind not using it. Even now with all the commercials its just too much, its like tv. I don't pay for tv either, since no one pays me to watch commercials.

Can you still watch it at 4K? i still can't since yesterday. I have the regular iphone 11.

Didn’t YouTube throttle bandwidth once lockdowns started? Maybe you get it back when you pay for it.

You mean like how Netflix blocks 4K unless you pay for the highest subscription tier?

I remember when I first got a 4k TV and I didn't see the UHD logos....little did I know....
But I did cough up that extra $3 (at the time) with the quickness!
