Im a bit out of touch these days but I always check in for the Apple press conferences. The new phones look great but I’m surprised at no mention of 5G, where we not expecting 5G handsets this year considering that the 5G networks have now begun to launch. It seems like a strange omission.

Edit: thanks for the replies. Looks like 5G isn’t as far along as I thought it was. I did say I was out of touch these days!!!

Rumors for months have indicated the 2019 iPhone would not have 5G. Not a surprise, especially considering 5G barely has a footprint.

O ok, I don’t follow the rumours. I’m im the UK and a lot of the networks are starting to advertise and push 5G so I had just assumed that it would be something that was added this year.

I am not planning to use 5g this year but will not upgrade now without a 5g phone as it means I would have to upgrade again. Still on a 6s plus so it will have to do me another year

5g not available for most networks yet. Only Chicago has a certain area where if you don't move much you can get 5g so why does this phone or any phone need it right now. It's a gimmick until it's offered everywhere. Look up 5g on YouTube and you can see for yourself.

Yep, don't worry about it, especially if you don't live/work in a big city. Yes, networks have 5G, but their coverage is very limited, and will be for a year or so.

They'll have capacity issues with the number of cells needed and upgrading their core systems to handle them. 5G roll-outs in urban areas should be pretty quick, but rural roll-outs won't happen for a long while and in some places will be impractical due to the limited range, so may never happen.

Thanks. It obviously isn’t as far along as I thought it was so I understand why it’s not included now. I did say I had lost touch with technology a bit!
