If it's true
This was the most disappointing iPhone release EVER. I am going to kiss my iPhone 13 Pro Max and hug it harder now.

I'll order 14 Pro anyway for screen size, though 8K would for have been nice if viewable.
Not sure if Camera improvement is enough from 12 Mini.
t.b.h. 14 Launch -underwhelmed.

why do you want 8k? Theres only a few tv’s with that resolution and seldom computers with them. 8k streaming is not even available just on youtube. There no point on 8k right now.
It gives more options in post processing (cropping).

8K or even 6k would allow the use of Warp Stabilizer or Motion Tracking in AE and maintain a 4k output. It is a shame the colour output is super, just needs to provide a bit more flexibility for post.

Technically I agree though not seeing enough improvements, unless Camera is noticeable upgrade.
I personally will never experience 8K in small flat, struggle to appreciate 4k via 48" oled.

thanks

Like dbzmusicboy, I too was disappointed of not having 8k video/live photo. Although most of the current set of equipments don’t offer 8k, we often forget why camera is invented. We wanted yo preserve our memories as time flee away. The photo and video becomes more valuable memories in the future. Remember those low resolution photos from your childhood? How would you like to have them in 12mp? 10-20 years down the road, you will wish you had a 8k device now.

I agree, I was really hoping they'd use the 48MP camera for 8K video. The stills don't mean much to me, I only use an iPhone to sketch with and a Mirrorless camera for photographs I care about. But video is something else. 8k provides 16 1080p images to zoom, pan and tilt with in post production. Or 4 4k images. The iPhone is a respectable video camera when all you need is flat focus. ProRes has, I believe an 8K limit - Atmos is delivering 8K prores recording. Perhaps they will use this iPhone hardware to do 8K with the next phone. While they are at it, put thunderbolt on the phone and get rid of the lightning connector so we can ingest the large video files quickly. Or if we are dreaming, give us the ability to record video to a thunderbolt drive like BlackMagic cameras can.

Finally, I pre-ordered the 14 Pro Max 256 for myself. I'll use the just-announced Fujifilm X-H2 for serious 8k shooting so the lack of iPhone's 8k is no longer a showstopper for me.

Just hope ProMovie Recorder could take advantage of the full sensor as it does with all the iPhones yet.

For those who doesn't knows, there are 2 fantastic apps able of taking full sensor video recording, ProMovie Recorder and Guerrilla Filmmaker.

They record 4000x3000 at 120MB/s and the comparison with the main camera preset in the iPhone, pixel by pixel is awesome. Another level in recording options. Something that Filmic, the most known app but not the best, can't do. (of course stabilization doesn't work at full sensor recording)

I could record 4K videos with the iPhone 6 when Apple didn't offer that in the main camera at the time, and the quality is just outstanding, so hope those apps could update and take advantage of the new system.

Having the extra size as they comment is basic for post production further tweaks and Apple can't justify the absence of 8K this year. They would argue that the A16 or the internal drive is not far enough to allow HDR at 8K, so the product "wouldn't meet their spectatives" as they do with many features.

Another shame is that Timelapse has no options for resolutions and the video generated is just crap.

But hey! we are talking about the company whose flagship device still connects via USB 2 to your computer!!! LOL.

A 6 years old iPhone is vintage, but a 20 years old protocol is king!!!
