With the new ProMotion display tech, I was fully expecting AoD ( Always on Display ). Did I miss that in the keynote?

And I thought there was going to be a matte black dark color 13 Pro?

Oh well, thank God the Pixel 6 line coming next month.

I currently have the iPhone 12 Pro Max and the Pixel 5A, and I love both phones.

But this new iPhone 13 Pro seems like a side grade at best and probably meant only to be upgraded if you have an iPhone XS or older.

Hack if you have a iPhone 11 Pro I would still keep that because it has the more comfortable nicer smooth edges and not the sharp uncomfortable square corners.

I would dare say the iPhone 11 Pro Max is the best iPhone made in quite some time. It's still a powerful smartphone with excellent battery life and great technology inside.

Yea I’m laughing in a way I can’t describe once that event ended, out of all the rumors the only real changes they made was promotion (finally) and they bumped the tele lens to 3x.

But promotion and no AOD??
No Black?
No Astro mode?
No Touch ID?

Apple has lost it, innovation is dead, but much worse, they have no drive, all they care about is making money, not even the slightest concern with keeping up with the competition.

Looking forward to the pixel 6, it has everything the iPhone doesn’t have, and won’t have for probably 2-4 more years, and by then, just imagine what the pixel line, or the Galaxy phones, and the Chinese will be bringing to the table!

I can’t wait to see what the Pixels Astro mode can do with the newer larger sensors. The iPhone to me is no longer a flagship device, other players stepped in and clearly have the desire to be #1. Apple is content to just keep churning out mid-range devices, if that, at bloated prices to the masses as long as that formula keeps raking in the cash for them.

Looks like today’s event woke a lot of people up to these facts.

How do you like the phone app in the Pixel? Seems like it is light years ahead of the iPhone phone app which I don’t think has seen an update since... ever??

The other OEMs maybe innovating in the smartphone segment but are so far behind in smartwatches it’s not even funny.

iPhone sure feels a lot like Intel with metered tiny increments each year… Need someone to “M1” the iPhone…

First it was the disappointment with WWDC and iOS 15 not being the big upgrade most analysts predicted, and I don't mean wacky crazy features that will never happen, but people that always have a rock solid guess on what's coming, all said iOS 15 was missing big time stuff that just didn't happen, they thought for sure was coming.

Really shocked they named this the iPhone 13, should have been the iPhone 12S or something, as it's such a minor side-grade.

Hard to argue with this. We’re seeing folding and flipping phones from Samsung and co along with the Pixel’s new design. Even if none of it is your bag, at least they’re all doing something different.

Samsung should just throw the kitchen sink at their next phones and show the iPhone up for the stagnant cash cow it’s become. No AOD is unforgivable, it’s a software feature for crying out loud.

Depends what you want. Apple Watch has the best app ecosystem but Garmin, Mobvoi, Huawei, Amazfit etc are all selling watches with battery life ranging from a week to a month. Even Fitbit can manage several days between charges yet Apple is stuck on the same old design with the same old lousy battery life. Zero progress on this front in 7 (!) iterations.

Ignoring all the other camera changes, the new processor… but I guess those things count for less than the color of the chassis (which you will probably cover with case anyway)?

And they actually showed an astro shot. But I guess that doesn’t count because they didn’t make it a separate mode?

Faster and better hardware every year is just a standard for new smartphones. That's expected. It shouldn't be praised, it's just what should and always happens annually.

No AoD is a kick in the dick though. No matte black color option is a bummer. No notch or much smaller tiny notch should be here already.

Really if you currently have a iPhone 12 Pro Max or even the amazing 11 Pro Max there's literally zero reason to upgrade to the new 13 Pro Max except maybe the cool new promotion display and that's truly only noticeable in heavy gaming and stuff

One of the biggest things I was looking forward to was the AOD that was rumored. I am quite upset that Apple is not giving that to us. I have the Series 4 SS Watch (No reason to upgrade yet as the new design didnt happen today either) so it is a feature I was truly hoping for.

Yea and I don’t even care for folding phones at this point, I just want Apple to keep up with the competition. We finally got promotion, which is great, but then like Apple they don’t take full advantage of it in not giving us an AOD.

I think they already do, they must be laughing over at Samsung hq today. You gotta wonder what they have to say behind closed doors, I imagine there’s a lot of “is that it”? “Are they trolling us”?

But then why bother with colors at all? Just offer one color, bare metal.

And as far as Astro shots the rumors were that it would get a dedicated Astro mode like the Pixel phones have. What Apple showed was just a 30 second night mode shot. I use the gcam app on a cheap Android phone and it takes much much better night shots than the 12 pro max, handheld or on a tripod. Gcam is amazing, I’ve captured lightning with it recently, looked straight out of a DSLR. While the iPhone shots were all blotchy, piss yellow, and for some reason they completely erase the lightning from pics. I haven’t had much opportunity to test lightning though since it’s a rare sight around here.

If Apple put some Pixel rivaling Astro mode into the iPhone 13 you can be sure they would have mentioned it today.

We all are different and want different things. I don't want AOD (but if it was an option OK) and I really don't care what color - I care what the phone does.

What exactly is stopping them from implementing an AOD?

They have the technology, and the Pro Max models can handle any hit on battery life. Heck, even the regular iPhones could run it with OLED tech. If it becomes a battery hog, give users the option to disable it.

I will admit, I'm interested to hear real life reviews of the ProMotion display tech. Is it a game changer and make the phone feel even more smooth and extra fluid? Or more of a minor barely noticeable upgrade?

Also, is the new 13 Pro screen of a higher quality, updated technology over the 12 Pro display? I don't mean ProMotion obviously that's different, but as far as brightness, or deeper blacks and brighter colors?

But I'm still salty Apple left out AoD.
