No AT&T Service on Iphone 3GS. What do I do?

    Hey all, new to the forum and Iphone. I just picked up a 32g 3GS Monday and when I came into work Tuesday I had no service the entire day! I work at the Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland and have been told AT&T has always had poor service in this area. Verizon (my previous carrier) has a tower next door and you can get a signal even in the basement of my building.

    So my question is... Should I stick with AT&T and enjoy the Iphone at other times of the day, try to contact AT&T to do something about it or just cancel my service and go back to Verizon. It's kind of ridiculous that I don't have service for 40 hr a day 5 days a week on a device I'm paying $100 a month to use.

    My next question is how does AT&T deal with returned Iphones? If I want to cancel my service is it going to be a pain or is it a relatively smooth transaction? Thanks!

    If AT&T cannot give you service in an area where they claim there is service they're in breach of their contract. You are able to withdraw from that without penalty. If they don't say there is coverage there then you have to decide if you want to not use your phone at work. I for one would not want it that way unless work prohibited me from using phones.

    I would return the phone and return to Verizon. I would also ask myself why I bothered if I knew AT&T delivered poor if any, service in that specific building.

    The process for return is only as smooth as the store can make it. You may get stuck with a moron who makes the return a 4-day event.

    I can't advise you whether it's worth it to you to have a non-working phone for hours per day, but I can tell you that you have three days to return the phone and cancel the contract without penalty. So, if you are going to return it, I'd do it today to save the restocking fee and service charges.

    Even after 3 days if AT&T said there was coverage and there is not then he can get out of his contract that way. I know I could when I lived in a place that got no service and AT&T said there was coverage.

    the thing is, is that if he is in a building, it might not matter. AT&T could say that it is his work building that is blocking his reception.

    well I found out after the fact. I think that is my best option, to return the phone. I'll be heading to the AT&T store today. Thanks for the responses!

    Smart decision. No matter how nice a phone is, if you can't get a signal for a large part of your day what is the point of having a cell phone?

    i'd say take it back if it doesnt work where you work!!
