No audio in iMovie 09 events or project

I've imported some old tapes using firewire to my Mac via iMovie 09 and the scribbler doesn't have sound when I play any of the event library clips. If I import them to my project there is no audio either. However, I located the raw footage in dv form in Finder and it plays with audio in QuickTime just fine...

When I import the event clip selection into my project the audio has the spinning loading icon and doesn't 'load' any audio ever. What is wrong? Thanks

Do you have audio in iMovie when you play the clips? Sometimes the scribbler is a bit hit and miss.

Fixed it, I had to split the events because they were "too big" :/

Hmmm...not come across that before. What do you class as "too big"? How long were the events that were "too big"?
