Hello all.

I have a MBP Mid 09. I have tried everything to try and get the internal speakers working. They work when i first turn it on but once it loads up and i sign in when i press the up down or even mute it stays on mute. when i click open and the speaker internal speakers dont it show up. Only way i can get them to work is by plugging some headphones then change it from output to input. soon as i take the headphones out their not working again. Can someone please point me in the right direction on how to fix this please and thank you so very much.

Check the audio settings in control panel?

Ah, that means it thinks something is plugged into the audio jack. If you had headphones plugged in there it would indicate that. A digital connection is made of plastic. Something is stuck in there. Usually dust.

Try plugging some headphones in there and removing them to see if that clears it. If not, try blowing into the hole or use a toothpick, but be very careful with that!

There is nothing in there. I have tried everything. I even tried to override that switch in there but still nothing. I tried this 1. Set the volume to max both on System Volume settings and VoodooHDA preferences pane (the PCM output in particular).
2. Open the Terminal and go to /System/Library/Extensions/VoodooHDA.kext/Contents directory.
3. Type the command: sudo nano -w Info.plist.
4. Press CONTROL-W (^W for search) and search for the string "VoodooHDAEnableVolumeChangeFix" (without the quotes). Change the value from false to true. Save the file.
5. Fix your permitions and clear your caches.
6. Reboot the system. Volume controls now work

but that didnt even work.

If you open the Audio settings and plug in your headphones, it will change from digital to Headphones.

If that is the case, the sensor isn't going back to the original position when the port is empty. It's probably dust that is lodged in there preventing that from happening.

Try rolling up a piece of tape, sticky side out and putting it in there and moving it around. You'll probably get a bunch of dust coming out with it.

Edit, you have a pretty old machine. If you've never taken the bottom case off, it's probably full of dust. It could probably use a good cleaning.
