Since watchOS 7.6 my watch S4 doesn't connect to my Airpods Pro (and Max) automatically.
Every time I start a Workout and choose my music, I have to connect the AirPods manually. Also after resetting/repairing the watch. My wife has the same issue. Bevor 7.6. I put my Airpods on and they were automatically connected to the watch and iphone. Right now, it seems the connecting only to the iPhone (BT auto switching devices is on).
Someone else with this problem?

Yes, I am having the exact same issue. Nothing I have tried is working. Maybe Apple will fix it with a new update. Having to manually connect my AirPods Pro to my Apple watch is archaic. The automatic connection was awesome before the update.

Same issue here. When answering a call or making a new one with Apple Watch it doesn’t auto send it at my AirPods….. I have to choose it manually.

Put on your AirPods, Go to your iphone setting, Bluetooth, choose (i) next to your AirPods, at “Connect to this iPhone”, choose “when last connect to this iPhone” instead of automatically, put back your AirPods to the case and close it. Take it out again and you will see your AirPods connect with yr phone and watch automatically. This will temporary solve the issue though it shouldn’t be the way it is but…it works anyway

Great! But than the autocorrect is only between iPhone and Watch. IPad or other devices are excluded.

Right, need to give up auto-switch function so I said this is just a temporary solution and it shouldn’t be the way it is. Have communicated with apple support and confirm it is definitely a bug. Report has been sent to apple and hope they will fix it asap

Facing the same problem with AW3 & AirPro…
I was getting increasingly annoyed that calls weren’t auto transferring to AirPods when answered from watch or that the calls dialed from the watch weren’t automatically transferring to the AirPods.
I had to connect the AW to the AirPods manually….

The aforementioned “solution” works as long as you have only the AW & the AirPods to worry about…
It most certainly affects ur workflow…
Hope it gets solved quickly!

Absolutely agree, as said it is just a “solution”. How can we have more noise? Seems apple never willing to get it solved…

APPLE WATCH CAN STORE MUSIC?

Unfortunately, this issue persists in iOS 15 and WatchOS 8 😞
Well I have something new to report. When connecting my AirPods Pro to my iPhone 11 ProMax under ios15 there are two things I noticed. Even if I manually set “optimising charging” ON it immediately reverts to OFF!!! Also when I select “auto-connection” it immediately reverts back to “when connected last”!!! Also spatial sound doesn’t have a selector anymore. It prompts you to enable it through the control panel. Summarising the above, I cannot select “auto-connect”, I cannot enable optimised charging and spatial sound cannot be enabled from the Bluetooth menu anymore

Fix one thing but break three in the process. I’ve seen a few toggles, especially with HomePods, go on then right back to off.

what u describe for the HomePod (toggles going from on to off)is exactly what I noticed as far as auto connecting and “optimised charging”. Has anyone else noticed this? Maybe I should repost under iOS15 as well…

Who knows if this is a function of an AirPods firmware, WatchOS or iOS. Your guess is as good as mine and Apple seems to be ignoring it lol. I thought for sure the update would’ve fixed it.

Is this problem still in watchOS 8.0? If I turn back to automatic connecting I still have the same problem; the watch isn't connecting to the AirPods. Can anybody confirm?

Installed 15.0.1
Although I still cannot select “Automatic” option in the AirPods menu as far as connecting to the iPhone calls are being transferred when initially dialled in the AW…
Don’t know if it is permenent

Hopefully not. I mean, it does not makes sense because apple promoted this feature. But otherwise, not enough people have or notice this problem.

Tried everything mentioned in this thread, but still no success.
Worked flawlessly for YEARS, but now chaos. I cannot understand.

After trying a lot of different things, as far as my case goes, the problem arises from connecting the AW3 to the iPhone. For example When I remove the AW from the iPhone all the functionality of the APP returns and they work flawlessly. When I add the AW to my Bluetooth devices the only option to connect the APP to my iPhone is “when last connected”. The option “Automatically” returns only when the AW is not on the list of Bluetooth devices. When the AW is connected transferring calls is hit and miss. I don’t know if it is because I have an AW3 and it cannot keep up with how the iOS software develops

Same issue here since 7.6 and still persists in 8.1, the airpods won't connect automatically to the watch which was very handful, cauz' I use the AW to display their battery statut. And also annoying when i'm listening to music in subway receive a call and answer it and doesn't root to the airpods but in AW speaker instead. This is really bad, looks like the AW is just a remote control for music player. I have to systematically use the airplay button on control center of the AW to display the battery of my airpods and make call through them via AW. Don't know if we could aware Apple about these issues. I had a hard time to find this discussion since i've been looking for a solution in months now, I thought that I was the only one who had this issue. What's interesting tho' is that i've recently changed my AW S6 to another S6 with diffrent color, and that fixed the problem for few days until the issue came back, I've reset the AW and the airpods, and that didn't solve the problem neither. When I was looking to some videos on Youtube, I saw that usually when you are in the BT settings in AW and you open the lid of the airpods, they connect automatically, on mine tho' when i do the same thing, I have to actually press on the airpods name in the BT setting to connect them... if someone find the solution, please share with us. Thanks.
