My shortcut fails quite a lot - does anyone know if there's a better way of setting up the shortcut than this?
If you trigger the shortcut from the HomePod in question by using Siri it is automatically the target for the audio stream. Maybe try removing the Set Playback command and follow that protocol instead?

My shortcut has more steps than yours but works very reliably when we trigger it from a HomePod using Siri (we have 9 in our house…).

Ahh thanks makes sense. Will have a play around with the shortcut 🤞🏼

Does this still work when calling the shortcut from a HomePod? When I do something similar it starts playing on my iPhone rather than the HomePod that requested it.

Hmm. It has stopped working for me at the moment, too. That is without me making any changes to the script on my device so it must be something in how the steps are implemented by either Shortcuts or the Sounds app.

Yeah, I can't help feeling skeptical but it feels strangely good! Discovering this made me go on another internet scour and this article doesn't sound encouraging https://audience.org.uk/bbc-radio-no-longer-available-via-tunein/. Not sure it's source but it says all BBC radio streams will go off TuneIn by August 30th - hopefully they changed their minds - or it's true and we've got it for a final few months?! Either way, turning up the tunes

I’m confused why the article is dated 2023, because BBC Radio hasn’t been available on TuneIn for quite a long time in the UK. At least a couple of years at a guess.

Yeah you're right. Hopefully that article is a misnomer - looking at some of the original articles from 2019 they reference 30th August. Fingers crossed this is a permanent change.

This is sort of funny. The BBC is just one of many thousands of streaming stations out there. I just asked my HomePod 2's to play the BBC here in the States with no trouble that includes all of the regional stations in the UK. The major trouble the "Beeb" has is the UK is people are dropping their yearly license fee. With all of the streaming online radio so much of which is better than what the BBC offer they are loosing a lot of their tax base.

May I suggest the iOS/Mac app "Broadcasts" it has many thousands of streaming radio stations from around the world. Ask your HomePod to play "Nordic Lodge Radio, Copenhagen". 😁

Annoyingly, BBC Radio is available via TuneIn OUTSIDE of the UK just fine. Always has been. They removed this access only in the UK 😠

Like I said the BBC is getting desperate. They are loosing so many people. Between 2021, and 2022 the BBC lost almost 2 million people. The license goes away in 2027 anyway.

@macbookpromusic Weirdly I can play the stations through HomePod if I use the iPhone to control, but asking Siri directly on the HomePod says ‘the app hasn’t added support for that’. So annoying.

Ahh pain. I definitely got mine straight from the HomePod at one point by pressing the centre button to activate Siri & asking ‘play BBC radio 1’ and it played straight away (controls then appeared on the phone instantly also). I purposely pressed the button on the HomePod to avoid my phone trying to respond and activating the shortcuts. Will have a play over the weekend.

Yeah I just got this. Deleted my shortcut and asked the HomePod ‘play BBC radio 1’ and I got the same ‘app hasn’t added support for that’ message this morning as you did, but it played straight away with the phrase ‘play BBC radio 1 on tunein’ also just the phrase ‘play BBC radio 6 music’ to the HomePod started playing straight away ‘playing BBC radio 6 music from tunein’ and I’ve never had any shortcuts for 6, just 1.

Shows the insular stupidity of the beleaguered people running the fading BBC. They don't really understand how the internet works. Going back in history I remember the Stateside war the record industry had against recordable CD's. There was a cartoon in which a recording industry executive was celebrating that people were finally getting it and were "burning" their CD's.

Haven't seen an announcement anywhere. All BBC station are now listed in Apple Music. Here's hoping this isn't just a technical blip
I tried asking my office HomePod to play Radio 2 earlier today and it still doesn't work.

I don't care about this any more. I've been listening to Boom Radio for the last couple of years instead of Radio 2 and it's far superior. I have an automation that turns it on when I start work and off when I finish. Now with Ken gone to Greatest Hits Radio, I'll have an automation that goes to GHR when he's on and back to Boom afterwards.

'Play BBC Radio 2 on TuneIn' works on my HomePod

This is the method I use to get radio 1. Weirdly 'Play BBC Radio 6 Music' works without the 'on TuneIn'.

Glad you're sorted - hadn't realised he'd moved.

That works for me now, if I say “Play BBC Radio 2 in Apple Music”; it also works for Radio 1 and 4, but seemingly not Radio 6. The wording required is precise, though.

Looks like Apple has managed a bit of an end run around the Beeb…

“Play BBC Radio 2 in Apple Music”
That works.

"Now playing BBC Radio 2 provided by Tunein".

That works for Radio 1 through 4, for Five Live and 6 Music, I can just say "Play BBC Radio Five Live" and "Play BBC Radio 6 Music" without the 'in Apple Music' suffix.
