iPhone has bluetooth but never got real bluetooth abilities,
like sending contact cards/files via BT,
still, iPhone SDK specs said nothing about it.
    it's kinda disappointing:(

i wonder if apple fears that if they open up certain bluetooth functions that it will allow hackers into sending system files and such. However I guess they are already doing most of that so thats probably not it.

I do like the sending of contacts via bluetooth and maybe appointments and photos.

    I agree.
I said this in another thread, but it would be AMAZING if I could buy and use the Apple BT keyboard with my iPhone to take notes in class.

I'm sure someone will come out with a word processor right away. Just unplug all the cords from the dock, set the phone in the dock on my desk and type away. No notebooks, no laptops. Ugh... a guy can dream...

I would imagine the BT data profiles don't exist because of an agreement with AT&T. I'm sure AT&T is worried about tethering and 'excessive' bandwidth usage. The SDK event revealed approved applications that won't stress the network is a requirement in the development process. In other words, they'll let developers release low bandwidth usage applications. AT&T has obviously expressed concern that people will be blowing through the data. After all, if Apple isn't allowing the iTunes phone app to access iTunes from an Edge connection that's an indication an agreement exists.

If a data-based BT profile is included in the phone and that phone is jailbroken a developer will likely be able to port data in and out of the network.

Actually, no. From the Macworld SDK event article:

So, if the dock is unavailable for programming then your hopes are completely gone.

i think there was a patent out from apple of a dockable keyboard, at the time everyone asumed it was just for the ipod, but what if it was for the iphone?

I agree, this would be amazing to have. The option of the bluetooth keyboard would be great for note taking without the laptop.

Stereo streaming of music over Bluetooth. That's all I want. Apple won't let me have it, and no one can tell me why not.
