XB360's are selling as game consoles. It won't miss HD DVD or Blu-ray. Why would Sony, which Blu-ray is really the main advantage of that system, let MS start selling Blu-ray drives to compete?

I do love my PS3 Blu-ray Movie Player, errr, Gaming Console...

LOL!

For me the appeal of the xbox was the fact that i could wait by the sidelines until the format war was over (wuss :p) then simple buy my xbox HD add on....
...that dream seems to be over!

I think its Microsoft that are making this decision as Sony would rake in the cash in licensing out the bluray technology....

..hopefully some nice company will make an xbox compatible bluray add on.

Interesting that Microsoft may introduce their own HD format. But what will they do when the size of the games becomes greater than the size of the DVD the 360 uses?

Does the XBOX 360 not offer HD video downloads anyway?
I'd rather have HD VOD.

I'm confused. So, are they going to release a new console that will virtually be the same thing just new marketplace/maybe new Hard Drives? Or are they both releasing a new system i.e xbox 540...720..1080/PS4? I'll be pretty pissed if it's brand new but it's pretty doubtful that it could be...

^ No basically its the next next gen console.

After all the xbox only had a 4 year lifespan, so in that theory 360's successor should hit by the end of 2009 / early 2010
:)

The XBOX had a short lifespan as the PS3 was expected to hit the market much sooner than it did. The 361 (or whatever it will be called) will come around 2012 I guess, now MS are in the market enough that they will feel they can languish.

well a hd player cannot read blueray or vise versa or ever could.

one uses a blue laser, one uses a red one.
i do not see what is wrong

If you keep away from games like devil may cry 4 which require a few gigs (4-5 gb) for storage then your ps3 should be good to go. Unless you add music, movies and lots of other stuff then it will gradually decrease of course.

Honestly it does not bother me. You had to buy the HD-player as an add on any how so what does it matter.

The "new formate" is what I call the writer trying to bash M$. Instead M$ is just going the way of downloading HD content. It would be like calling the iTunes moves a "New formate" for HD because it is not Blu ray or HD-DVD

Figures that Microsoft would take this approach. The are probably poor losers in betting on HD DVD. I personally like the PS3 as a blu ray player. I know a couple of friends who bought a PS3 for being a blu ray player and they rarely play any games on it.
