Figures that Microsoft would take this approach. The are probably poor losers in betting on HD DVD. I personally like the PS3 as a blu ray player. I know a couple of friends who bought a PS3 for being a blu ray player and they rarely play any games on it.

same reason why i have 2 ps2's
man i want a ps3

If you keep away from games like devil may cry 4 which require a few gigs (4-5 gb) for storage then your ps3 should be good to go. Unless you add music, movies and lots of other stuff then it will gradually decrease of course.

Not true I'm afraid. There are quiet a few games that stealth load stuff onto the HDD. You only notice when you start running out of space and go and check.

2gb here, 3gb there.... It soon adds up.

They should at least give you the option of choosing whether you want to or not. I'm betting before the end of the year both my ps3's will have new 200gb drives inside them.

I have a 160GB drive in my PS3, it has 94GB free. Most of that space is from installing games to the HD. Some games require it, others don't but I opted to install them to enhance gameplay. 2-4GB here and there adds up.

Yeah I have just over 20 games, and you have around 25 don't you Ed, so I can see why your drive is 60GB used up. It's very easy to do and often unconsciously.

So yeah, I must upgrade my drive... And yet I only have about 4gb used (not including reserved system space) on my 360 ;)

^ Can you buy the 60gb anymore ? I thought you only have 80gb and 40gb now. And the difference is not only hdd space but backwards compatibility.

Here we only have the one 40gb SKU now.

ya i know i just looked at that
and the 40 does not have wifi
so ...
can you add wifi?
or backwards compatibility?
i think the smallest one is backwards compatible

How is this good news for the 360 peeps that don't have HDDs. :)

I think 50 gigs of Ed's PS3 is just pRon...

Who cares, blu-ray is dead, online downloads are the future. :p

You are about 10 years or more ahead of yourself with that comment. The infrastructure is nowhere near what it needs to be in order to make downloads take over physical media. There are still places in the US, UK, EU, & Asia that don't have access to high speed internet. Plus there is the emotional aspect that you have to beat, now you are paying the same but getting less since you no longer have physical media. That will be a hard sell to most consumers, if it wasn't then you wouldn't see games that have both downloadable versions and physical media version.

I believe in time DD might become the norm, or at least a option along with physical media. Right now isn't the time, nor will it be the time within Blu-Rays immediate or mid-cycle lifespan. DD is 10+ years off, and thats saying people will buy in to it and let go of having physical media (good luck with that). Sure you and I may accept never having the physical media, but the AVERAGE consumer (which most of us here are not) will not accept it, nor do they have the technology to do DD right now.

It sounds like someone is just bitter from buying a HD DVD player/add-on ;)

^^^^^

Not to mention the DRM with downloads. Good luck trying to take a "download" over to friend's house to play, or selling the game when you've beaten it or tired of it...

Bad for us Videogame Collectors as there is no more "physical media" to collect. When a game system dies, all the "downloaded games" die with it... :(

ya know just thought of this.
if ps3 and xbox were going to use the same media whats preventing the games from working on both from a single cd.

There wouldn't be enough room for two versions of games. Some games would be small enough to fit both on a disc....ala a PC and Mac hybrid disc. But the 360 needs a DVD, no matter what. It doesn't matter if 360 gets Blu-ray. The games will always have to be on DVD. Games for all future 360's will have to be compatible with all previous versions of the 360.
