To the Mac gods...

Here's the low down, my MBP would not boot past the grey apple logo with the gear spinning. I think it froze or something and my girlfriend just shut it off. I'm not sure if this is it or not because there is a weird buzzing/flicking noise coming from the hard drive, leading me to believe it's toast.

Long story short i have apple care and setup an appt tonight at 8pm. I'm looking to back up any data i can before then. What should i do?

would it be best to connect it to my Mac Pro and setup in target disk mode?
or
Should I load something on to my USB drive and boot from that?

I would appreciate any help and recommendation of programs preferable free but will be willing to purchase one if needed. thanks in advance.

Bill

I would have a go at target disk mode and save as much as you can onto your macpro/ external hard drive

Good Luck with your appointment!!
