Hi,

So the Problem I'm having is as it says in the title.
"No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key keyboard not working"

However, I've been looking for a solution all day now as whatever I have been trying isn't working nor are any solutions suggested.

My mac is dual booted, I had erased the Windows partition thinking nothing would happen upon restarting the Mac.

Upon starting my mac, No apple log appears however there is the apple chime. Around 2 Mins later it then goes to a black screen displaying "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key keyboard not working".

I have tried a number of things such as; Pressing Alt(option), ALT/Command P,R. I have also tried a USB with windows 7 on it but nothing is picking up. The keyboard is disabled as well.

Does anyone have any suggestions or is this a place for the Genius bar?

Thanks

The process of erasing the Windows partition probably messed up your Mac volume also. I have seen similar threads like this on this forum. I believe is is recommended to use the Boot Camp Assistant to remove a Windows partition.

Do you have a backup of you Mac? Can you boot into Recovery (hold down command+r during startup)?

I've tried to use that a few times and nothing is registering at all. It won't go into any mode, no matter what I press.

Can you enter Internet Recovery (hold down option+command+r during startup)?

What computer model/year do you have?

What Mac OS were you running?

It won't let me go into any mode whatsoever. The keyboard is disabled.

Macbook Pro 13" 2010.

The OS what was running was Early March 2012(can't remember off the top of my head)

Can you try booting from the gray Install CD that shipped with your MBP?

If not, then it is time to make an appointment with your nearest Apple Store Genius.

Is the problem already fixed? I have the exact same problem and nothing seems to be working for me. I hope someone still replies to this 4 year old thread but whatever.

I had this problem on my 2009 Mac Pro. The keyboard lights up but caps lock doesn’t work so you can tell there’s no functionality at boot. The only thing that worked for me was to get a working Windows HDD and insert into slot 1, it then loaded Windows. From there you manually install boot camp drivers for Win via usb or network if ur internet works, to get the tray icon that lets you switch back to Mac. I wasn’t even trying to install boot camp I just accidentally plugged in a Fat or nfts usb external drive.
