I did as described on my Mac Pro:

    1. New OTB 16GB iPhone
    2. Started iTunes, went into recovery mode, installed 1.1.4 FW via iTunes
    3. Shut down iTunes and shut down iPhone
    4. Opened ZiPhone and iTunes
    5. Pressed home button and connected to Mac and put iPhone in recovery mode
    6. Selected Do It All in Ziphone 2.5, in advanced selected Jailbreak, Activate and Unlock
    7. Start Process in Ziphone and finished within 2.5 min.
    8. Shut down iPhone, replaced ATT SIM with T-Mo SIM
    10. Went ahead and installed BSD Subsystem 2.1 and OpenSSH
    11. Reset Network Settings - still NO CARRIER
    12. Shut down and power up iPhone - still NO CARRIER
    13. Put my SIM in my wife's unlocked 1.1.3 iPhone and it works, but her SIM does not work in my iPhone, as it still has NO CARRIER
    14. Verified my SIM works in other phones as well

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

    I see no replies. Hmm...

Ok, this is what I had to do. Since 1.1.4 is close to 1.1.3, I restored to 1.1.4 in recovery mode and unlocked only using ZiPhone 2.4, then put iPhone in recovery mode, and ran ZiPhone 2.5 Jailbreak and Activate. That worked!

All else installed fine and I have the $5.99 T-Zones working like a champ. However, Firmware is 1.1.4 (4A102), as expected, but Modem Firmware is 04.02.13_G. When I couldn't get a carrier, but everything else was working I had 04.04.05_G. Checking my wife's iPhone that is still 1.1.3, it has 04.02.13_G and has been working well.

Does anyone have any ideas? Has anyone used ZiPhone 2.5 on a brand new OTB 16GB iPhone?

Put your phone back on the cradle and do a full restore of the original software. When that is complete, run ziphone with your phone normally plugged into the cradle. it should work now. I have a OTB 1.1.2 out of the box that was successfully jailbroken and unlocked. I was able to use my wife's T-Mobile sim.

I did do that at least 4 times and on two different computers, iMac & Mac Pro. Now going over my steps, like a fool, after I installed 1.1.4 the first time, I got the AT&T screen for registration and I clicked the cancel button while the iPhone was connected. This may have been the reason for the permanent lock.

I strongly suspect that I could probably do a full unlock, jailbreak and activate with ZiPhone 2.5 now, though I'm reluctant since everything is working and I might as well wait for the next firmware update within weeks or months.

This whole process of unlocking the iPhone is very interesting, somewhat fun if you have time. Coming from a Treo650 and Blackberry, the iPhone OS X is really a charm.
