No Connection after stopping VPN

Still prepping for an MBA purchase.

I'd be interested if anyone who uses a VPN service loses their ability to connect after shutting the VPN down. With my current Windows machine when I stop the VPN I lose my IP and have to go into my settings and re-check the box for Obtain IP automatically. Major pain in the butt so I'm hoping that with a Mac OS this doesn't happen??
