No Contract iPhone 4

When I get my No-Contract iPhone 4 on the 24th, do I have to have ATT service activated or can I just walk out without any ATT services?
Does anyone have past experience with No Contract iPhones on launch dates?

You can walk into any store that is selling the no-contract iPhone and walk out without service. Not sure why you would do that, but you can.

im doing it because i dont want ATT service.
im just worried that when i go in to get my no contract phone, they would tell me to sign up with att before leaving the store.
