No data: iPad sim in Netgear Aircard 779s

Put my iPad sim in an AT&T Unite 770s mi-fi hotspot in 2014. Worked fine.

I just purchased a newer model, Unite Express 779s. The sim card does not provide data. Error message says to activate the sim card. Tried re-booting. APN settings are the same.

Put the card back in the 770s and all is fine.

An suggestions appreaciated!

Not sure but thinking the iPad sim is not supposed to be used in a mi-fi, hence my reluctance to call.
