No drives display during software installs

Yeah, so recently when I try to install software as I go through the install process and get to where I'd like to install something, my disks don't show up. It only happens every once in a while. Anyone know why?

Tiger 10.4.11 MacPro 2.66 quad 16gig ram

I have 4 bays full plus one in the 2nd optical.
