no email alert sound

my new Unibody MBP does not 'ping' telling me of a new email message, it makes other sounds like the 'whoosh' of an email being sent, but there's no sound of an incoming email - I have checked the settings in Preferences in the email program and in 'sound' on System Preferences.

Seem to remember my old 12" PowerBook doing the same thing.

am I on my own on this one, or do other ppl have the same issue? its not that much of a problem, merely curious

no I have sound enabled.... strange.

No, you're not alone. I have a similar problem... sometimes it makes a noise, sometimes it doesn't. But for the most part, it doesn't.

I also have the same problem. it'll sound the "incoming" mail sound intermittently.

This is a known issue with 10.5. There are a kermillion threads about it on the apple support forums.
