According to the person I contact with at Apple, they said, I quote: "...won't be available for discounts for a few months."

Therefore my guess is they probably won't start the discounts til Feb or March.

I don't know where you guys get your EPP discount from but I used to work for apple as a student and we did get staff discount which was described as EPP but it was always told to use that you got no discount on brand new products especially if they were in high demand. Typically we waited 3 months for any product to become available with the discount

Some useful information there, thanks on the timings. Seems to concur with new iPod touch only becoming available on Apple employee EPP 10 days ago, a couple of months after it launched. I'd imagine it'll be longer for the new iMac.

By the way, not that I being a grammar nazi, but what do you mean by the above?

I bought a Mac Mini at EPP store the day it was announced (same day the new iMacs were announced as well). I think only products in high demand are excluded from EPP for a while. Same applies to ShopDiscover, if you look now those bastards say the 5% cash back does not apply to iPhone 5, iPad Mini, or iMac.

When did Discover add that not applying to iMac etc? When I placed my order 2 weeks ago that was definitely not there. But since I haven't been charged for the iMac yet I'm wondering if I'll get that 5% cashback...

It was not there on Nov 30 when I ordered, now it is. I'm ready to fight them because they added that after I placed the order. I'd hate to lose 5% back on a $2384 purchase.

Any updates on the new iMac availability via EPP?

Like others here, I've been waiting a LONGGG time for the new iMacs. My current one is on its last legs. My wife works for Pixar, and we are blessed with a sizable discount. I'm pretty crazy, but not crazy enough to buy the iMac at retail prices ;).

I've been scoping the non-EPP store, and it looks like the 21" still say "7-10 days" and the 27" are shipping "in January". Hmmph, don't know what that means for the EPP.

Has anyone gotten -any- info from reliable (heck, even unreliable) sources when Apple will release the iMacs?

I spoke with an Apple biz rep on the 28th about the discounts on the 27" iMac. He told me that they currently are not offering 'loyalty pricing', as he called it, on the 27" models because they are all backordered. You can get accessories and applecare discounted as usual, but not the machine.

Has anyone gotten a different answer/received the discount on their 27" order?

My advice for those of you waiting for EPP discount..

Find some way to use the EDU discount. They're fairly close to the EPP discount, and they're available now. Apple does not police this closely and the requirements are low (oh, okay, your nephew goes to school at University of Wisconsin, so you can use their discount). Given everything that has been said about EPP taking months or longer... take EDU now.

What is the EDU discount in the US? I saw someone posted 5% earlier. Just curious what kind of actual dollars off people are seeing.

Not all EPP discounts are the same ;). Looking at the EDU store (my son is a HS student), it amounts to a $100 saving for the i7 27" iMac. Our EPP discount is substantially more than that. Pixar employees get the same discount as Apple employees. It's the Steve Jobs connection.

The $100 is a nice discount, and better yet it can be used now. If your EPP discount isn't any better, I'd say go for it!

This might be instructive. From the FAQ portion of our EPP store:

Q: When will I be able to make a purchase from the Employee Purchase Plan store?

A: Current products are available for ordering immediately. Newly announced products will be available for ordering approximately one month from the date they are available for sale in the channel. There may also be strategic times when product will not be available on the Employee Purchase Plan store (i.e. quarter end, end of product life cycle).

Not sure how this "one month" timer applies to the iMac. Does that clock start when the 21" was available, or when both versions are available? That 21" window should be open by now, but all iMacs show as "currently unavailable". It would seem the "strategic" quarter end has passed as well.

Bumping in advance of Apple's earnings call tomorrow. We should get an iMac manufacturing update.

I've been checking daily with my EPP store. Still shows all iMacs "currently unavailable". I've also been checking the Apple online store - 27" are "3-4 weeks" and 21" are now showing "2-3 weeks". Previously it was "7-10 days". Wrong direction.

I've also been monitoring the posts elsewhere in this forum, and it seems some 27" are available at some Apple retail stores, even is non-standard configurations. Looking at Best Buy, for the 21" it shows "not available for shipping". But the 27" will ship within one day from the warehouse. Amazon shows the 27" to be more readily available. Hmmmm....

Not sure what this means or how it relates to the EPP store. I know for iPads and other super "hot" items, it can take quite awhile for them to become available. Don't think this has been the case with iMacs, until now. Heck, I just want to order one, TODAY :)D), and get into that 3-4 weeks time frame.

Hopefully we'll know more tomorrow. Has anyone else heard any news?

Let us order

I saw the 21" jump up to 2 weeks, and the 27" is 3-4 weeks. I'm wondering how long it will be before the 27" is "In Stock" so I can get a BTO 27" with an SSD, i7, and graphics card. The discounts on upgrades are huge usually and I'm guessing it'll probably save me $400 at the end of the day. I'm not qualified for a student discount, so I can't work that angle. I really wish they would let me see what the discount is so I can decide if waiting 2 months for it is worth it. :/ It would be really nice if they would just let us place the order and say it will take 2 months for those using an EPP discount.

I got my 27" iMac through EPP as a federal employee. It saved me $160 for a top of the line 27" with 1TB fusion drive. When I called around (a few weeks ago) they said EPP and Educational discounts were available for online and in-store purchases. Maybe things have changed.

Config with edu pricing

The config I'm trying to run is $3503 with edu pricing vs $3818 with retail pricing. I'm wondering if EPP would be the same as edu for pricing, better, or worse.

In my experience EPP is usually just a flat % off on BTO, the options are discounted the same amount as the base level Mac (in my case 6%).

I actually stopped into one of the local Apple stores yesterday and they (in error) agreed to do my 6% EPP on a new top end 27" iMac with the i7, Fusion drive, etc. I had a 27" BTO without Fusion on order (was going to replace with my own SSD) but considering the EPP I decided to go ahead and grab it.

When they tried to complete the transaction it refused the EPP code and they ended up giving me the 6% off under the category "customer satisfaction" instead. So I saved about $150 and the Fusion upgrade ended up costing me less than $100.

In all honestly I think it will be early March before they are doing EPP on the new iMacs.

As mentioned before, not all EPP discounts are the same. Mine is 25% off a system bundle, so you can bet I will wait until it comes available on the EPP store.

I can assure you, it's not available yet. ;). I'll let y'all know the second I see it.

25%! I thought EPP was approx a 8% discount...
That is a big discount you have there

I just noticed the educational discounts are applicable to the new iMacs

Well that's why they don't post it, they want your business now, not later with a a discount. :D

He has something somewhat different than regular EPP as he gets the full discount Apple employees get, because he works at Pixar apparently.

For most companies that qualify for EPP, it's 6% off the iMac and 8% off of Mac "pro" products include pro macbooks, etc.
