No External Drives Recognized on Power PC

My G5 PowerPC will not recognize any external drive, on the desktop or Disk Utility. One showed up briefly, but the computer locked up . I've tried each drive on my Imac and they all show up and work perfectly.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

what formats do the drives have ?
if your iMac is intel its likely you used GUID Partition Table (GPT) to format the drives and if the g5 has still panther or tiger below 10.4.6 then it cant mount a drive with guid partition table
