So, my Macbook is wonderful. I love it. The only problem I have is that there is no Firewire port. Now, when I bought the computer, it wasn't an issue. However, now I am starting to do some video editing for work, and I really need that Firewire port to connect to just about every camcorder I have come in contact with.

My question: I have an external hard drive with both USB and Firewire ports on it. If I connect the hard drive to my computer, then connect a camera to the hard drive, will it show up in iMovie? Assuming that the camera is compatible with the software, of course.

    Thanks!

No, as USB and Firewire are not compatible.

You need a dedicated Firewire port on your Mac or any other computer to connect DV/HDV cameras to your computer and get the video off of it.
