No flash memory usb will appear on desktop

Just bought the new macbook air... everything works just fine except that any flash memory or disk I insert through usb ports don't appear on desktop but i can open them in finder normally. any idea?

check finder preferences, general tab

show these items on desktop, are these ticked ?
