The problem with the "next scam crap" is it'll save you time and money. As long as you have good credit.

I have good credit. Next will not save me any money compared to my current subsidized family plan.
And definitely won't save me any time.
Your answer should be "next" might or could save you money depending on your current plan and data usage.

Specifically I was addressing the person labeling it a scam.
The same person that quite obviously failed to read AT&T's terms of service for the program.

I was _NOT_ advocating for AT&T
I was _NOT_ suggesting anyone use their program

I _WAS_ simply offering a comment based on the concept and terms of the plan. Especially as compared to similar installment type contracts across various carriers.

I hear you. Its not a scam if you read and understand what you're getting into.
For some it might work great, for others not so well.
The idea of carriers moving away from subsidizing devices and into family share plans is more profitable for them in the end so that's what they're pushing for lately. Making it harder, more expensive and more limited for people with older subsidized plans and unlimited data plans to continue receiving those offers and services.

I used Next for the first time this year, on the 12 month plan. The reason I decided to do it, was to pay the phone off in 18 months interest free. I'll probably pay the phone off in September and get a new one on another 12 month plan. I looked at both, and even on a new 2 year contract, you are still paying for the phone over the life of the contract, because of that fee they add in until the contract ends. Either way, they are gonna get their money for that phone.

The only real difference that I could see was in the amount of upfront money. The two year "subsidized" contract comes out to a few bucks less over a two year period.

Depends on the plan you have.
If you have a mobile share plan then you don't get a monthly "discount" unless you're on next.
I'm on old legacy plan family talk nation 700 with rollover. 4 lines and 3 of them unlimited data.
With Fan discount $163 a month before taxes. Full subsidies on all 4 lines.

You get the same deal whether Next, full price, or bring your own. No difference: https://www.att.com/shop/wireless/data-plans.html?&WT.srch=1&source=ECPS0000000PSM00P

No you do not get the same price.
Not every plan is the same and those on unlimited data plans or old family plans with subsidies still pay way less than mobile share and next plans.
And have the peace of mind of never paying any overages or sharing their data amounts with multiple people.
I save thousands over a 2 year span over a comparable mobile share with next payments family plan of 4.
