Ditto on no image signatures. Those are the scourge in my pants. The rotten apple in my eye and the pins in my cheeks. (I would do away with avatars and signatures altogether as well. And no smilies. And no leet speak or multiple exclamation points. And no misspellings. And no terse or idiotic subject headlines.)

And "Official" threads

Is putting a banner image in your signature available at some post count level or is it just not available to use at all? I looked and tried but I couldnt upload an image into there

It's bad enough the level of detail some people put in their sigs ("iMac G5 w/ 1.512034 GB of RAM bought from crucial.com on 7/7/05 for 145.93$ with iLife '05 and a BT Keyboard and an HP printer and a blue ethernet cable and a pencil")

No, no. You have it all wrong. its:

iMac G5 w/ 1.512034 GB of RAM bought from crucial.com on 7/7/05 for 145.93$ with iLife '05 and a BT Keyboard and an HP printer and a blue ethernet cable and a pencil

;)

I can make some of the smae arguments everyone is making against avatars. Maybe at a certain level you can have images in sigs and there can be specifications with width height and size.

But the signature isn't important at all, only your post is.

Why are you squawking so much about a signature?

This forum isn't about promoting yourself, it's about participating and helping others.

If you want a forum that looks like it hosts a bunch of tweenies, go there.

Then why even have signatures? I just saw some custom made banners on some other sites and I thought they were cool. I get the point.

Whats a tweenie?

That marketing demographic who would thing picture banners are the coolest thing in the world.

You've probably seen some sites like those, annoying as hell as so distracting it's only fun for them.

Edit: some of the marketing companies vary of the ages slightly.

Well I guess there is no need for a sig with an image any more. The one I wanted is just at the bottom of every page

;)

No signature is complete without pet names for your electronic gear (and pencil and cable) and a list of what you intend to buy in the next six months, how much more you need to save to do so, and what your SO will do to you when you get it.

you can turn 'tars and sigs off in the User Control Panel, i dont see sigs anymore, i dont see a point to them personally, but i like tars for identifying people.

Then why do you have a sig at the bottom.:p

If you want a perfect example of why image sigs shouldn't be used, look around on the forums at OCRemix. Ugh!
It starts to make your computer screen look like street graffitti. after everyone puts thier tag on they start to lose thier individuality. quite an eye sore too. perhaps Guiliani can take this graffitti on too?

Gak... Please don't petition for this sort of thing. For those of us with DSL it is not such a huge hit but people with dialup modems, and there are a great many, get killed by this sort of pollution. Text is good. Use an Avatar if you really want to have a picture. What, you haven't earned one yet, well... get active in the forums! :)

... i find the 'tar size here to be a good one and helps identify who is posting...

I agree re the tars, although (and I apologize for any offense; I don't mean any) the avatar "themes and games" in the last six months have kind of wrecked the ability to identify who is posting. For a long while, I felt like I really knew the regular posters just from peripherally seeing their 'tars; now the "games" (ipods with think different language; southpark figures, etc) have taken that away. I don't know that the entertainment value of the "games" has enhanced the ability of readers to enjoy the forums.

At least somebody speaks up who isn't usually picking on the rest of the demis and mods, because they deserve it at times. :p

To be fair, the demis themselves get impacted by the games as well. It is a bit chaotic-- but we're just trying to mirror life itself. ;)

I am still under the 500 post count and i think the 500 count for the avatars is great. I don't mind not having a avatar, I can wait.:)

HydroMan has his avatar, and he's only posted 225 times so far.

The only MR member in history to have an avatar with the lowest post count. :p ;) :D

I believe that was because like 300 of his post were in the now gone "Picture-Association Game" thread
