Well i sold my 3gs today & shipped it off for a cool 475 :) now I'm just waiting on the iPhone 4 to drop.

Now my problem is I don't have a phone during this time & would rather not buy a cheap throw away or anything like that. Now i've been quite intrigued with the iPad for sometime now and had a few questions.

I know I can cut my current sim card with my iPhone data plan on it & stick it in the iPad and get data, but are there apps out there that will allow me to text as if I was using my phone?

The main things I use my phone for are Web/Email & Text messaging.

I'm thinking if I can get the iPad to do all of those then I'll be fine w/o my phone for these 2 weeks

It will also help justify the large purchase to my girlfriend :)

any help and recommendations would be appreciated!!!

    Thanks

Don't sell your phone if you need it.

I keep an unlocked cheapo motorola feature phone as backup, for international travel, etc. It's a good idea to have at least one backup phone in your gadget junk box. The battery lasts forever and mine even has stereo bluetooth!

    My setup is as follows:

Phone call: Google Voice receiving on the Moto phone. Missed calls will go to Google voicemail box and transcribed text will be delivered to my email inbox. You can set your phone to redirect missed calls to Google Voicemail box even if the call was to your AT&T number.

SMS: Google Voice free text on iPad. Boxcar gets push notification when a new text comes into my gmail. I can reply within the Mail app on iPad.

It's a bit of hustle to carry iPad everywhere I go, but I think I can survice another couple weeks.

So the short answer: Get an unlocked feature phone and the Google Voice.
