You could make the same case for a 970MP PowerMac.

Alone2Gether said:I still believe there will be a PB update. I believe Steve is not going to give a keynote because he's not going to extol a technology he's about to ditch. Most of the other products were recenlty updated. It's going to be a quite release for the PBs.

Considering the MacIntels aren't out yet, that's a pretty big assumption. I mean, we know the G4s have been, shall we say "lagging", for awhile... but we don't know what chip(s) Apple is (are) going to use. For all we know, they are going full 64-bit. Not that it matters as much in a laptop, but it would make things easier. I'm sure if nothing else, Intel can tack on something.AidenShaw said:I can only guess that Apple is so desperate for Yonah that they can't wait for 64-bit dual-core in the laptops.

The 7448 processor providing slightly faster bus, 1 MB of L2 cache, slightly faster speed, and slightly better battery performance. It would be nice.
Next, scrap the combo drive models. Have only three models: 12-inch, 15-inch, and 17-inch, all with Superdrive. Also, make the superdrive dual-layer, if possible.
On the 12-inch & 15-inch lower the price to what the combo drive models previously cost, and cut the cost on the 17-inch, by $200.
I'd buy one right away.![]()
From what I understand, 7448s will run cooler than previous G4 processors. That alone is worth the upgrade, if that's the case. I've been sticking to my old G3 iBook because the G4 PowerBook I had for a time was too hot on my lap. I sold it.271 said:sounds like a pretty minimal upgrade.. and is it that much different than the PB you already own???

imho anything in the ball park of the currrent cpu and bus speed is nothing to get excited about. but that's probably what will happen... if anything does.
powerbook911 said:I like to upgrade whenever possible, it is fun, and I never have to buy a warranty that way. The 7448 chip would be nice.
271 said:do you just ebay your laptop when you buy a new one or pass it on to another family member?
i guess if its something you can do then why not.
i'm just anxious for new powermacs cuz i want one. i'll buy whatever is available once i'm able to.

Windows NT was officially sold and supported on PPC chips until Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 3. Windows NT has been multi-architecture since the beginning.
NT-based systems have been sold and supported (or is sold and supported on):
- 32-bit x86 (P3, P4, P5, P6, "P7")
- 32-bit x86 with 36-bit memory addressing (64 GiB RAM) (P6, Xeon)
- Digital Alpha
- MIPS RISC chips
- PowerPC chips
- x64 (AMD64/EM64T)
- IA64 (Itanium)
In addition, the Windows Mobile branch of NT is or has been supported on x86, ARM, PPC and several other minor embedded chips.
