When using Apple Maps in IOS 18 and car play you can't enter a destination via the car play whilst driving which is rubbish

Has anyone else found this or found a way to remove this silly restriction

Pretty sure this was always the case. The keyboard gets disabled while driving and you have to use Siri.

No its new and I've found another issue

You can't search iPhone contacts whilst driving, so unless you remember who you saved and their name you can't ask SIRI

Unreal

How do you ask Siri about a contact, if you can't remember the name?
(I guess you meant to say "You can't search iPhone contacts while driving (?) ... )

Just found this out today. Totally ridiculous imho.
Contacts not available and not able to enter those numbers to crawl forward in those automated phone guidance systems when calling systems.

Press 2 if you think it’s pointless
Press 3 if you think its moronic
Press 4 if you believe it to be retarded

I too drive BMW since 2017. My previous car - a model 2018 5 series (iDrive 7) had no restrictions.
Now have a 2024 4 series and I don't really know for sure, but I believe only recently did the restriction appear in the 2024 model (iDrive 18).

I'm not that happy with it to be honest, even though I use those functions seldomly. It's just the principle of it. When one puts those functions into perspective against all the rest we're supposed to only deal with on the display, the choice of disabling the functions is simply illogic and silly. There's just no justifiable logic for BMW to go and decide on applying such restrictions. Perhaps they wanna push the use of their own interface - just using the phone over bluetooth I mean. I wonder if one can scroll contacts in the iDrive phone app.
