I applied the Profile in Post #1 and Tahoe nag has gone.
Now I see:

There's a reminder that 1 Update is available.
I have prevented Automatic downloads:

15.7.4, deferral policy is still working here. It doesn't give me the option to upgrade to Tahoe.

It has been well over 90 days. Actually, almost twice that long. They could have "fixed" whatever was causing that long deferral to occur.

15.7.5 won't "officially" release until late March, at the earliest. Still a while left without the nags, if that really is what is going to make the difference.

I don't turn on Beta update, I downloaded from appstore and installed that full version

The version#:

Version 15.7.5 (24G617)

I just did an internet recovery on my MacBook Pro M4 and the installed version is 15.7.5 (24G617).

I didn’t realise this had been released.

Apple has made a mess. At the time of writing, 15.7.5 has not been officially released, the App Store lists Version History for 15.6 (so that is what should offer) and there are two download links for the same 15.7.5 build 24G617

It doesn't look like it has been released. But, sometimes a new release comes out and it takes them a few hours to add it to this page.

However, macOS Settings and also the softwareupdate command line tool are not offering me 15.7.5 (unless I enroll in the Sequoia beta program).

Best guess for me is that someone set a flag wrong and is causing it to offer a pre-release version on the App Store and Internet Recovery.

I would expect 15.7.5 to be released alongside macOS 26.4, in late March (at the earliest), unless there is some kind of pressing bug fix or security update that they have that justifies an interim release.

Thank you so much for this @bogdanw !! What a blessed relief to not have to see these constant Tahoe reminders, and for the peace of mind as well.. ..and no red badge on the System Settings dock icon either!

I installed both the Defer 90 and Software Update configs a few weeks back, and rerstarted. Everything seems to be working as intended, except for this persistent reminder. Could this be specific to the Safari 26.3 update? Or is it because it's been over 90 days since the Tahoe release? I currently have Safari 18.6 installed.

Forgive me, I've read through this thread multiple times and I'm still fuzzy about the progression of things!

If I understand correctly, the effect of the Defer 90 profile is likely to last until the next point update release of Tahoe? Or is it until the advent of OS 27?
What happens then? Does one "re-apply" the configuration profile? Sorry if this has been covered ad infinitum 😬

If you have an update available for another component (like Safari) then it makes sense that you would be getting the pop-up. Install the update and it should go away.

The policy is supposed to apply for 90 days starting with the release of Tahoe. It doesn't matter "when" you applied the policy, and re-applying it will not have any impact. Something is off, since it is still "working" even though Tahoe was released closer to 180 days ago. However, this grace period may be about to run out. We've had reports that users on macOS 15.7.5 are seeing the Tahoe update notice even with the policy applied. The 15.7.5 update will most likely drop to the public either next week or the following week.

After this time, when the 90-day policy is no longer effective, you will always see the Tahoe update as available in System Settings. However, you can take other steps noted in this thread to avoid being "nagged" about it.

That’s from Safari. Install Safari and it should disappear.

We have to thank Apple’s generosity, or incompetence 🙂 , for not seeing Tahoe now.

The profile hides Tahoe for 90 days since a version of the OS was released. Even with the profile installed, we should now see Tahoe 26.2 in Software Updates.

Reinstalling the profile doesn’t do anything more that keeping it installed.

Safari updates are fine, should update imo.

It's Tahoe that's an issue for some people like me (Intel Mac Pro 2019)

Thank you for that explanation. That clears up a lot for me, I appreciate it!

As far as Safari 26- I actually downgraded to 18 after upgrading to 26- many thanks for another thread on MR. I found 26 to be really slow and I couldn't figure out how to get the bookmarks sidebar to behave the way I like it.

That experience and a more recent one of updating the iWork suite to 14.5 from 14.4 has really made me be a lot more cautious on ANY updates- let alone an OS upgrade. With the iWork apps update came a persistent "update to the newer version" nag every time I use one of them; I found a Terminal command that so far has eliminated that business..

Aah. Now I understand the confusion, that the 90 day thing has been inconsistent on Apple's part.
Thank you for that and the clarification on the Safari update, much appreciated 😊

Some good news for September 2026, it appears that Apple will allow us to defer macOS 27.
SoftwareUpdateSettingsDeferralsObject
https://developer.apple.com/documentation/devicemanagement/softwareupdatesettingsdeferralsobject
"MajorPeriodInDays
integer
Specifies the number of days to defer a major OS software update on the device. When set, software updates only appear after the specified delay, following the release of the software update. Available in macOS 15 and later.
Minimum: 1
Maximum: 90"

At the moment, it doesn't say it requires supervision, so the same profile will work on iOS as well.

It looks like this is available now (iOS 18, macOS 15), so it should be possible to construct and install a policy well ahead of the release of macOS/iOS 27. If it does work for iOS too without MDM (plus iPadOS, tvOS, etc.), that's awesome.

This one allows you to force a particular beta program, which could also be helpful for non-macOS devices. (I.e. forcing iOS 18 beta program will prevent iOS 26 upgrades for as long as you want?)
