All the threads i have read claim the MMS icon in the SMS app is back by default. But i looked and it wasnt there and there was no option to turn it on either. I am currently running the tethering hack and am on ATT 5.0. Please help. Thank you!

I have a freshly restored 3GS running 3.1 beta with AT&T 4.2

I didn't have to hack and install an ipcc file. The camera icon for sending MMS is just there.

I had the 5.0 AT&T carrier file installed when i upgraded to firmware 3.1 beta today and instead of getting the carrier file changed to 4.2, i still have 5.0?? Any idea????

That's correct. If you upgrade and already have 5.0, you will retain that version. If you restore, you will have 4.2.

so i have to restore my iphone to get the carrier file to be 4.2? what if my carrier file is 4.0 and then i upgrade to 3.1 will that change it to 4.2? i just dont want to restore my phone...

Yes, if you restore from 3.0 to 3.1 rather than update, your carrier will change from 4.0 to 4.2.

If you don't want to restore, hold off until someone inevitably releases the 4.2 ipcc which you should be able to use to change your carrier version.

Did you try restarting your phone and then going to settings messages and turning on MMS?

OK, but if i now installed carrier file 4.0 and then try Updating and not restoring, wouldn't that change it to 4.2 because i am increasing the carrier file? Why do i have to restore and not just update from 4.0?

ive tried it all! i am going to do a restore and see if MMS even appears again and if it does than update the carrier file again
