What a pile of baloney. Everybody I know (UK) uses a debit card. The reason being: it's your money, so you can't overspend or spend money that isn't yours/you don't have. Avoiding credit cards isn't bad practice, and good credit can still be built from paying bills by Direct Debit, etc.

What happened to the OP has never happened to me, and I've never heard of it happening to anybody else. I'd be pretty pissed if it happened to me.

Why everybody seems so unsympathetic and rude is beyond me.

95% of the people I know use credit cards in the UK when purchasing items over £100 as credit cards offer the consumer more protection if things go wrong such as this situation. However the OP may not have access to a credit card and therefore is in this situation which is unfortunate.

Crap happens. Look on the bright side - at least you will get your money back, so it's really no more than a mild inconvenience. You didn't need the money for any emergency either, so no real loss. Just smile and move on. :)

It's amazing how a simple post about a transaction gone awry can bring out such uncalled for rudeness.

I had this happen with an online Apple transaction, and there was a form the Supervisor was able to fill out and fax to my bank to get the funds released early.

It took some work, but it was able to be fixed.

You might ask your bank about it - mine was the one that told me to ask Apple about it and started the ball rolling.

Of course they (Apple) should compensate you in some way. The error cost you TIME, INTEREST on the money (negligible) and perhaps cost of FUEL / PERSONAL TRANSPORT. A reasonable level of compensation would be some kind of accessory for your laptop, in my opinion.

Here in my country, they would be forced by law to compensate you with the cost of transportation to/from the store in a case like this i believe. Anything more than that would be good-will though.

Well, actually I needed that laptop. NEEDED IT! Without it I've been unable to access porn "on-the-go" for over 72 hours (and counting)! (and btw bashing one out to redtube on your phone in the toilet doesn't count... I'm talking full on access to porn on a laptop where I want...)

you cant put a price on cordless ejaculation.

(well you can)
