No more app icon badge for Apple Podcasts 2.0

The updated Podcasts app, IMO, is an improvement - with the additional My Stations options, I can finally recreate the "play all podcasts in chronological order" feature that was missing in the most recent versions before the current version.

But the current version did seem to take something away - the app icon badge showing the number of unplayed podcasts. There is no longer an app icon badge showing how many unplayed episodes are remaining. I did make sure to turn the app icon badge on for Podcasts in the Notification settings, so I don't think that's the problem.

I manage my podcast subscriptions entirely on iTunes on the computer (subscriptions and downloads on the iOS device are off), download the podcast episodes in iTunes, and then sync through iTunes to my iOS device, and listen to the episodes on my iOS device. Could that have a bearing on the badge not showing up?

Hi there, I actually just registered with MacRumors after reading your post. I've been reading the sure for few years now but nothing has ever come up which bothered me enough to comment on it.

After the podcasts app was updated I immediately noticed the lack of badges. I rely on the badges to give me a rough idea about how many shows I have left to listen to. This is incredibly strange and inconvenient.
Just like you, I tried various settings in the podcasts notifications and options. Set badges feature to be "on" , nothing. Set to off, then on again, restarted back and forth. Still no badges.
Tried turning on and off the Background App Refresh feature as well.

I doubt that the badges were actually removed and are not supposed to be there because Apple would remove the notification option for on/off for the badges. The way I use podcasts is different from yours as I barely ever use the iTunes on my PC. While back I actually downloaded the shows to the phone, but for months now I just keep adding the shows within the podcasts app so they appear as brand new with blue dot next to them. I have a mix of shows that are new, partially played, and played. The app does add new ones but there is still not once that I've seen a badge since the update.


Hoping someone who knows what is happening would reply and help us.
