I wanted to capture a neat picture of the storm that is now over, and I held down the button to take a picture, expecting to take burst pictures. Instead, the iPhone started recording video. WTH? Did that change with iOS 26?
Use Burst mode on your iPhone camera to take multiple high-speed photos so that you have a range of photos to choose from when capturing a moving subject.

If there is one thing that irritates me about tech, it’s when software changes an established way the UI works. This being a perfect example. The one time I recently wanted to use burst mode and I did it the way I was used to and it didn’t work. 😩
After using my 16 Plus on iOS 18, and after coming from my iPhone Xʀ on iOS 12 which takes burst pictures the usual way, I noticed that this was changed only after seeing this thread.
I had taken exactly 0 burst pictures with my 16 Plus in about 14 months. And I dislike this change. It’s not like it matters much, but holding the shutter button was far more intuitive.
