iPod touch No more gold contacts

Anybody notice the headphone contacts on the iPod touch are no longer gold plated? Necessary for maximum audio quality Talk about cutting corners.

Both gold/brass are more corrosion resistant than aluminum. Not everybody uses $3.00 earbuds.

Just clean them from time to time. Use some magnetic head cleaning fluid. It should get rid of the oxide layer, and thus, restore the audio quality.
