    Hi,
Just wanted to let you know, that they no longer accept phone preorders, but those placed in the past are still valid. Now it's just that you walk in and they either have it or not.

It's new starting today, interesting approach.

I wonder if that means they are going to have more consistently in stock, or if it means there were just too many reservations and they are just giving up.

I don't have an iPad yet, but I will be getting one in the next 3 weeks. I'm trying to avoid ordering online if I can. I was thinking I wouldn't even bother with an Apple store though, and just go to a Best Buy since they seem to have them more often and I can easily check online.

I dont understand why you'd need a reservation list for iPad. I ordered my iPad of the Apple store on-line website and got it less than 2 weeks after I placed the order. And that was in June.

Also, Futureshop and Best Buy have them in regular stock now here as well.

    crazy times.

I wonder if this has anything to do with some people being on several different lists, but not informing other stores to be taken off a list once they have managed to secure an iPad.

Got on list on 16th... figured i'd call another store on 19th - lady said at least 10 in stock - ran there and purchased it - am still on the list for the old one... maybe i'll gift it to someone or just let it expire.

The day before yesterday I placed a phone order at two different stores for a 64gig 3g version. The following day one of the stores emailed me saying I could come pick one up.

Prior to that email coming in, I drove 49 miles to the nearest BestBuy that had one in stock to get it.

So, judging by that the Apple stores are getting them in much larger quanities, while BB is getting the short end of the stick.

Hopefully this means you can just walk in and get them in most stores.

Now hopefully they won't run out of stock so quickly. I had to call all the possible locations in a 50 mile radius and none of them had ANY iPads whatsoever. I'm just glad I got mine now. :D

Plenty to be had in Scotland :)

I was in Glasgow and headed into the Apple store to escape a heavy downpour. Had a play about with the iPad and fell in love with it. There was a guy buying three 32Gb WiFi+3G models for himself, his wife and teenage son (who were both basically jumping up and down on the spot peeing themselves with excitement). I asked one of the staff what models they had in stock. He said they had loads of 32Gb WiFi+3G and a good few 64Gb WiFi+3G (but no 16Gb wifi or 3G). I said.. "Ah what the hell... give me a 32Gb WiFi+3G and an Apple case. We headed upstairs to the accessory area and believe it or not... They had a WHOLE WALL covered in Apple iPad cases lol.

I think I must have just been lucky on that particularly wet day :D

NOT TRUE! I just got off the phone with my local Apple store (Louisville, KY) and they accepted my reservation for 16GB iPad.

    SOLD OUT in Los Angeles

This is annoying. I wanted to get one for my husband on his trip to China (flying coach = hell, with no power supply for your computer), but all the Apple stores in Los Angeles are sold out, Best Buy too.

I went to Beverly Center last night and I've been in there before, but I've never seen so many people at once buying them. I called beforehand and the Apple store rep said they had 16 gig Wifi and 64 gig 3Gs available. But when I got there, all the people inside the store had bought all of them just right under my nose. WTF?! It's not even launch day for this Apple product. Well, I admit it was bad planning on my part to not just order this online ahead of time.

Originally we were going to get a Hypermac battery to power our 17" 2.66 icore7 MBP but Hypermac was *also* sold out of that, in turn making us suddenly want an iPad for the long 14 hour trip to China. After this, I think I'll wait for next year's iPad...by the time it's available in stores 2.0 will be out.:mad::mad:

Don't you love it when everyone suddenly wants the same thing you want at the same time?!

This isn't an Apple problem. HTC is having trouble building EVO 4Gs and what not. There's a raw material shortage going on.

I think some people would rather buy from their nearby Apple retail store rather than the online Apple store. The reason being is that it's easier to return, replace, configure, and/or repair by swinging by the retail store if you have one close by, than sending it in to Apple. These services are also faster with the local retail store, sometimes same day. Our local retail store won't provide these services if purchased from the online Apple store.

You can get that kind of service at your local Apple store, no matter where you purchased the iPad. There is no disadvantage to ordering online in this regard.

The Florida Mall store sells out of their daily shipment of ipads and cases in a couple hours. Glad I reserved mine. Good luck.

Not true. I don't know if it's the policy of all retail stores, but mine will not accept returns or exchanges with products bought at the online store.

I put myself on the list at the apple store here in Dallas on Sunday. They said it would take a week to 10 days for my iPad to arrive. I received an email two days later (Tuesday morning) and picked it up yesterday. (Awesome device, by the way.)

When I put myself on the list at the apple store I was thinking that I might end up buying it elsewhere before my reserved one arrived. I asked the apple store person what I should do if I already had one by the time I received my email notification. He said, "if you change your mind or have already purchased one, just ignore the email from apple. If we haven't heard from you in 24 hours we'll just put the iPad back in stock." It doesn't sound like they're bothered at all if people sign up for a reservation and then buy it elsewhere.

Not sure about how returns are handled, but I believe all Apple stores have Genius bars where you can exchange/repair any Apple product under warranty no matter where you bought them.

Fair enough. The closest Apple store near me is in Toronto which is about an hour from where I live. That only leaves Futureshop and Best Buy for local purchases.

Buying Apple on-line is the best solution for me.

FWIW - Futureshop was sold out of iPads when I ordered mine but they have them in regular stock now.

Umm so I went and reserved my ipad 16gig 3g this morning. They had all models except 16 and 32 3g. She also said that they had plenty to last a few days.
