No, the Computers app is where you'll see Home Sharing in tvOS.

But yes you'll need the Mac on.

If you are referencing iOS then yes you'll find your Home Sharing libraries in the TV app.

To add another layer of confusion like mentioned above in iOS and the TV app you need at least one movie actually on the device so you can see the menu to get to Home Sharing.

On iOS you have to use the Video app. It works fine if your iTunes library is small. However for reasons never clear it works horribly with large libraries (unlike the Apple TV apps). So if you have more than 1000 videos (not uncommon if you've ripped all your DVDs and BluRays) it'll time out before getting all the file names. I've reported this bug to Apple numerous times but they've yet to fix it.

For the AppleTV though it works wonderfully and I find it superior to alternatives like Plex. (Although others disagree) I have a very large library in iTunes since I prefer to rip BluRays rather than buy off the iTunes store.

Forget trying to view your home sharing library on an iOS device via the TV app. It sucks, sucks, sucks. Instead I use Air Video Server HD on my Mac and the Air Video HD app on my iOS device. It is far superior. On the AppleTV I still use the Computers app to stream my library.

Better yet get Plex server running on your mac. imo it works better than home sharing anyway and i can access my media outside my home over the internet. playing with the tv app today out of curiosity reminded me of what a piece of garbage theyve turned their media sharing platform into. tragic as it used to be pretty great.

An alternative is Air Video ( www.inmethod.com )
It acts as a server on the Mac and the iOS Air Video app allows you to view videos on the iPhone or iPad. It does work with DRM content most times, but only by opening the video in iOS Safari.
The downside is that it doesn't access the video via iTunes (or is that an upside?). On the Mac you need to point it to folders containing videos, including the iTunes Music folders Movies and TV.

Had me confused for a while, but as previously mentioned you need to add at least one movie or tv episode using usb to the device for it to start to look at your home sharing..
I have read through all of these posts and I still can not figure out how to get the TV app to recognize family sharing. I am trying to make it possible to have my kids stream movies from their iPads (without having to download them to their iPads). What I have found is that it must be done through the TV app. When I download the TV app, I do not see any movies except the one that is actually downloaded to their iPad. How do I get all of the itunes movies that we have purchased (through family sharing) to show up in the app so that they can stream them when we are in wifi?
I plugged one of the ipads into my computer and dragged one of the movies to their ipad in the itunes app, but it still isn't showing up.
Has anyone figured this out?

Which country are you in?
In the US you shouldn’t have to download the TV app. It’s one of the stock apps. It replaced the Videos app.

Try this.
In the iPads settings under iTunes and App Store you should be signed in under the same Apple ID that purchased the movies.

In the ipads settings under TV — iTunes video — you should have home sharing set to the same Apple ID that purchased the movies.

If you’re trying to watch movies or TV shows purchased from the iTunes Store you should be good to go. When you open the TV app under Library you should see a TV section, a Movie section, and a Downloaded section.
That’s as long as you have a WiFi connection fast enough to stream video.

If you’re trying to stream videos from the iTunes library of another Mac in your house you need to have the source Mac turned on with iTunes already running and you need to have Home sharing enabled.
The iPad needs to be as above and both Mac and IPad have to be on the same WiFi network.
In this case you’ll see the name of your shared iTunes library on the iPad along with the TV/Movies/Downloaded sections.

So, when I logged into my husband's itunes account (this is where most of the movies were purchased) on the kids ipads, I now see all of the movies that he purchased on the TV app. The only problem is, one of the movies was purchased under one of the kids itunes accounts and that movie will not show up because it wasn't purchased under my husbands itunes account (even though we are all on family sharing). Is there a way to move the movie from the kids itunes account to my husbands since it is within family sharing?

I don't think you can transfer the movie from one account to another. However, there seem to be a few solutions to this issue:
  1. Use Airplay to stream the videos to the ATVs from the kids' iPads
  2. Go to the Movie or TV Show apps (not the new TV app), go to Purchased->Family Sharing and select the account for the child that has the movie. The movie should be present here and can be played directly on the ATV. (This setting is not in the new TV app however).

How are you? Is there anyway to get my movies I view in the "computer app" home sharing into the "tv app" on Apple TV?
I have a lot of purchased movies as well as ripped and I wish they could all
Be in the same app

i knew there was something missing....

Computers section has always been part of Apple TV used to steam from Mac/IOS TV shows/Movies or Photos.

You put add them to the app, u stream them..

Turn on Home sharing on Mac and Apple TV, and use the *same AppleID" on both.. to sign in

Anything in your iTunes library, will appear available to stream under "Computers" on AppleTV. Some formats are not supported by iTunes, so will not import and will need o be converted first.

[doublepost=1515398944][/doublepost]Clarkgoble,

I’ve been trying to figure this out for a bit. I also like to rip my dvd collection for viewing via my Apple TV however, I can only see the digital copies purchased with blu rays that I download on iTunes. My iTunes library has over 100 of my movies but they aren’t there on Apple TV. Any ideas?

This was the key for me - thanks!
TV App was working as expected with homesharing with my ATV3, iPads, etc. but not my iPhone 8. However once I added/purchased a (free) tv show from the store - my libraries showed up. I call that a bug.

OK, thank everyone for the help. I really appreciate it. I have it nailed now, maybe it will help someone.

I had done everything including sync by cable to itunes. What I had to do is I had to sync ONE movie to the phone by cable. I never do that, I just watched them all through the videos app without putting any on the phone. Obviously you need to sync one to set up the link. No idea why. Just did it on the 6s plus, now to do the ipad.

Yep, or wifi sync. This worked for me, thanks

Thanks BeforeTheMeds,

True, as soon as you have 1 video in there (any type) it will show up and allow you to select Home Sharing as a source. You MUST leave at least one video on your iPhone. If you delete it you cannot connect to Home Sharing again. Dumb.

Thanks a lot for your finding !

As a side note : getting the list of all my videos is quite fast. Used to be a nightmare on iOS 8.x or 9.x
